Last week YouTube underwent an important change: for some users the like button that appears below the videos disappeared. In that case it was an error that the platform itself took very little time to restore. Today, however, we come to talk about a change that could be permanent . If users like it, of course.
I am referring to the new and complete redesign of the interface that YouTube has been working on for some time, and which is now available experimentally. What does “experimental” mean? Well, for now it will only be shown to a limited number of users. Specifically, to those who subscribe to YouTube Premium.
If you are a YouTube Premium user and want to activate the new design of the application, you just have to go to youtube.com/new . This is the “secret” section where you can activate all the experiments that YouTube releases periodically. Scroll down to the “ New display page design ” section and press the blue “ Test ” button.
Keep in mind that this new design is only available in the web version of YouTube for computers, and that it can only be tested until July 1 at the latest . If you don’t like the new design and want to go back to the classic version, simply return to the experiment page and press the “Deactivate” button.
This is the new YouTube design: comments on the right and larger thumbnails
Once the experimental design of the interface is activated, we will immediately notice the changes. For one thing, the comments have been relocated to the right . This way, we can read what people are saying without having to lose sight of the video, which is great.
Personally, it seems like a pretty good change to me, although as we say, it will only be available until next July 1st. From that date on, if the experiment has had a positive reception it will be implemented globally, and if not, it will be kept in the drawer of failed ideas that never saw the light of day.
