As you know, Nemesis is the main antagonist of Resident Evil 3. This monster was created by Umbrella scientists from Tyrant, known to us from the previous part of the game. His task is to destroy all members of the STARS squad who witnessed the epidemic in the laboratory under the mansion (remember the original game). In this guide, we tell you how to escape or defeat Nemesis during each encounter with the monster. Unfortunately, all of them are scripted: that is, the monster appears only after reaching certain plot points.
How to deal with Nemesis
It is important to remember that Nemesis’ strengths and weaknesses will change as the game progresses. Therefore, your approach to the monster should vary depending on the specific situation. However, we explain how to act against the enemy at all stages of the game.
Meeting Nemesis in Jill’s apartment
At the very beginning of the game, Nemesis breaks through the wall of Jill’s apartment, trying to kill her. This segment is a planned escape according to the game’s scenario. But from here we can learn that it is impossible to kill Nemesis with a regular weapon. Jill will shoot her in the head several times, but Nemesis will continue to pursue her as if nothing had happened.
When you regain control, run down the hallway using R3 until a cutscene starts. Climb out the apartment window and go down the fire escape. Nemesis will attack Jill again using its tentacle. Run down the burning hallway until you find yourself on another fire escape. Go down until you find yourself in an ambush again. Run in the opposite direction from the monster with a piece of concrete, go around the fire. After that, the fallen debris will block the monster’s path. At the top of the parking lot, perform the QTE actions.
How to defeat Nemesis in the city and metro
Nemesis will attack Jill again much later, in the city. He will act as a typical enemy: chasing and attacking the main character. From time to time, the boss will turn normal zombies into powerful monsters.
You can’t kill Nemesis! However, there is a way to temporarily stun the enemy. This will happen after Jill has dealt enough damage to the enemy. Use the shotgun and aim for the monster’s head. After that, you will have about 30 seconds to breathe.
Nemesis cannot follow you into individual rooms. For example, he will not enter a toy store. However, depending on the specific area, the enemy may stand outside a building and wait for you outside. Nemesis moves slightly slower than Jill on the street, but can quickly teleport to stand directly in front of her. If he teleports near Jill, she will be temporarily stunned.
Nemesis’s standard moves are slow, heavy punches. Or lighter overhead punches that can knock Jill down. You can dodge them if you time the button presses correctly. In most cases, it’s best to wait until the very last moment before striking.
Nemesis can also scream. If you are in front of the monster at this point, you will be immobilized. However, Jill will not receive any damage. When Jill comes to, immediately dodge, because by this time Nemesis himself or a zombie will approach her.
Finally, the enemy can use his huge tentacle arm. With it, he can grab Jill by the legs, throw her on her back, and begin to pull her towards him. The attack is difficult to dodge, but Nemesis needs a line of sight to successfully perform it. In addition, the grab itself does not cause damage. If you do not quickly get back on your feet, this pull will be followed by a heavy blow. In the future, Nemesis will continue to appear in the center of the city.
How to defeat alpha hunters
These are the monsters that Nemesis creates from regular zombies by infecting them with the G-virus. You’ll know this every time because you’ll see a cutscene where Nemesis grabs a regular mutant and attaches some kind of thing to its head. This will result in the appearance of a tentacle zombie. These enemies are not easy to defeat: they’ll slowly approach you, and their heads will be hidden behind their hands, preventing you from quickly eliminating them. But you can easily spot a large glowing dot. This is a weak spot! You can fire a shotgun to remove the hands protecting the weak spot. Or aim straight at the enemy’s torso. When they fall, the weak spot will be exposed.
How to lure Nemesis out of the subway
The next encounter is a chase where you have to attract Nemesis’ attention. The latter is not a problem, as the enemy will follow Jill automatically. Your main task is to escape before the boss tears off Jill’s head. This is more of a puzzle than any real fight. You need to find a way out quickly.
At the beginning of the chase, go along the corridor. Do not try to shoot at the enemy, so as not to waste ammo in vain. There will be a rack with a spray ahead. Take it and go right, climbing the stairs to the maintenance room. Continue walking between the racks and equipment. Then there will be a wall with a vent. Interact with the grate, but you will not have time to destroy it – Nemesis will get to Jill first. Take the ammo and continue running. You need to lure Nemesis to the red barrels. Shoot them to stun the boss for a while. If you can’t do this with the barrels, you will have to use grenades or a shotgun. While the boss is stunned, continue to destroy the grate until it gives in.
Battle against Nemesis with flamethrower
The next encounter is a chase that turns into the actual first boss fight. It starts after Jill leaves the sewers and moves through the construction site. This time, the monster will have a flamethrower in its left hand. Run away from the boss, dodging zombies, climb up the building and reach a safe room. Save, collect supplies and prepare for battle.
The first thing you need to do is destroy the canister on Nemesis’s back. This is not difficult, since the enemy will move slowly. The enemy will use streams of flame with a short range, but the fire damage will be impressive. Also remember that damage can also be taken from burning objects nearby. Occasionally, the enemy will shoot into the air, which will cause a rain of fire. This is a less destructive attack, but it is more difficult to dodge the fire drops. There are ammo and medicine in the battle arena. You can also lure Nemesis to a generator and shoot it to stun the enemy for a while.
flamethrower fragments as a melee weapon. This begins the second phase.
Now you will need to dodge a lot. Roll to the sides and keep shooting. You need to deal enough damage to stun the enemy. Shoot the shotgun in the head, aim the grenade launcher or assault rifle. You will have to spend a lot of time on defense, because the enemy is really fast.
Nemesis with a rocket launcher
Of course, he’s not dead yet. You’ll meet him again after the gun shop. This time, the boss will use a rocket launcher with a laser sight. Run away from him by turning into an alley. When the laser beam changes from orange to red, dodge to the side. This means that Nemesis is about to fire, and the rocket is about to fly in the chosen direction. Just run away until Carlos eventually appears.
Nemesis in beast form
The second time, the real fight with Nemesis will begin on a large bridge that leads to an open square with a city tower. This time, the enemy will take on a more wild, animalistic form. It will be a huge monster moving on all fours. It has no ranged attacks, but its speed and damage in close combat can simply shock you.
Nemesis will try to knock Jill down so he can trample her. He has a large radius of damage, and the blows themselves are sweeping. If it’s a standard lunge, just dodge. Roll to the side if he tries to jump on Jill. Look around so you don’t accidentally run into a wall while retreating.
With one blow, the boss can deal damage up to 50% of your maximum HP. If you have to choose between your attack and dodging, the action is obvious – the second. Ammo and medicine are scattered around the edges of the arena.
The best option is fire grenades. Thanks to them, the monster will be incapacitated for a short time. Use this to safely attack or collect ammunition. After taking enough damage, Nemesis will retreat, jumping on the machine and moving in a circle. This will open access to another part and supplies. From this point on, the enemy will run around the buildings far from you. He does this very quickly, so it will be difficult to hit the monster. When this happens, try to plant a mine on his path. After the explosion, the enemy will fall to the ground, and you will be able to shoot at him several times.
Third battle in the Umbrella laboratory
Nemesis will appear in the same form in Umbrella’s secret underground lab, ambushing Jill after she creates the vaccine. While similar to its previous form, the enemy will have additional moves, mostly focused on its giant tentacled arm.
He will use melee attacks again. He can jump on Jill. It is better to dodge to the side, because stepping back will not help. When Nemesis pulls back his tentacle, he is going to shoot it in front of him. Again, dodge to the side. Do not forget to shoot at the enemy. As last time, if possible, use fire grenades. They can cause a lot of damage and disable the enemy. Nemesis’s head is tiny, so aiming for the head will be difficult. However, the damage to the head, as always, is higher.
After a while, Nemesis will roar. The electricity will go out, zombies will start appearing. Carlos will also arrive. He will advise. Listen to him carefully. He will often warn you that Nemesis is preparing to lunge. Now the boss has a new, very dangerous attack. If he gets up on his hind legs and raises his tentacle, retreat as far as possible!!! This will be a fast lunge, which is difficult to dodge. Then a real madness of several blows in a row will begin. Do not get carried away by the attack and run from this terrifying combo.
Nemesis will also run around the tanks around the location. If he stops behind one of them, shoot with a grenade launcher. The explosion of the tank will activate electricity, and the boss will be temporarily stunned.
Nemesis Giant
You can’t kill Nemesis with a normal weapon! Instead, go to the big capsule opposite the monster, interact with the panel and take the huge weapon in your hands. Jill will automatically shoot the enemy. Then the weapon will start reloading. To reload the weapon, you need to interact with the red cells on the side walls of the room. Naturally, Nemesis will interfere with you in this. His attacks require timely dodges, at the very last minute. The range is such that you should dodge from side to side.
Shoot the pink pulsating growths on the monster’s body to temporarily stun the enemy. You need to destroy ALL the growths, after which the monster will be incapacitated. This is the perfect moment to push all the red cells. Then shoot the enemy with the same weapon, and then repeat the actions.
