Depending on the situation, the user can choose to completely switch to other software or temporarily remove the antivirus to solve specific problems.
Uninstall via “Programs and Features”
- Open Control Panel. Press Win + S, type Control Panel and select the appropriate result;
- Find the Programs category (or Uninstall a program depending on your version of Windows) and click Programs and Features;
- Find Avast in the list of programs. Scroll through the list or use the search bar to find Avast faste
- Click on Avast Antivirus and click the Uninstall button at the top of the program list;
- The uninstall wizard will open. Confirm your wish to uninstall the antivirus by clicking “Next” or “OK” several times;
Once the uninstall process is complete, the wizard will prompt you to reboot your computer. Confirm the action to complete the uninstall.This method is suitable for most users, if there are no problems with the system or the program itself.
Removal via AvastClear
- Download the AvastClear utility. Go to the official Avast website , find the AvastClear utility section and download it to your computer;
- Press Win + R, enter the command msconfig, go to the Boot tab and check the box next to the Safe Mode option. Click OK and restart the computer;
- After rebooting, find the downloaded AvastClear.exe file and run it. The program will prompt you to select the Avast installation location (by default, this is the C:Program FilesAvast Software folder). If the path is different, specify the desired folder;
- Click “Delete” in the utility. AvastClear will remove all files and components of the antivirus, including residual files;
- After deletion, the utility will prompt you to reboot your computer. Confirm the action.
This method allows you to completely remove Avast, including all residual files, which can be useful if the standard removal via Programs and Features does not work correctly.
Uninstalling using command line
If standard uninstallation or AvastClear utility did not help, you can uninstall Avast via command line. This method is recommended only if other methods are ineffective.
- Open Explorer and go to C:Program FilesAvast SoftwareAvastsetup. Find and open the Stats.ini file;
- Find the [Common] section and add the line SilentUninstallEnabled=1. Save the changes to the file;
- Type cmd in the Start menu search bar, then select Run as administrator;
- In the command line, enter: cd C:Program FilesAvast SoftwareAvastsetup;
- Enter the following command to run the uninstallation in silent mode: instup.exe /instop:uninstall /silent;
Disable Self-Defense (if required). If the uninstallation fails, open Avast, go to Settings → General → Troubleshooting and uncheck the Enable Self-Defense option. Then try uninstalling Avast again via the command line;
This method is suitable for advanced users and allows you to remove Avast even if other methods have proven ineffective.
Removal using third-party programs
You can remove Avast, like other software, using specialized programs. For example, Revo Uninstaller.
- Go to the official Revo Uninstaller website, download the program and install it following the on-screen instructions;
- Once installed, open the program. You will see a list of all installed programs on your computer. Scroll through the list or use the search bar to find Avast Antivirus. Or use the search;
- Click on the Avast icon in the list and click the Uninstall button at the top of the Revo Uninstaller interface;
- Revo will launch the built-in uninstall wizard. Follow the wizard’s instructions as with a normal uninstall (confirm the uninstall and wait for it to complete);
- Once the removal is complete, Revo will prompt you to perform an in-depth scan for any remaining files and registry entries. Select a scan mode (Moderate or Advanced) and click Scan;
- Revo will show a list of remaining files and entries related to Avast. Mark all found files and click “Delete”;
This method allows you to completely remove Avast, including all traces of the program, and prevents possible conflicts when installing a new antivirus or programs.
