Many of you know about the program Notes (original name – Sticky Notes) – the one that allows you to place blocks of text on the computer screen. If you want to sync sticky notes with your MacOS, Windows 7/8 or another Windows 10 computer, we are here to help. There are three ways to share notes. Let’s look at them one by one.

1. Share sticky notes between Windows 10 computers

First things first, this method only works on Windows 10 computers as older versions of Windows and MacOS are not compatible with the updated Sticky Notes app.

Now, to share and sync Sticky Notes with other Windows 10 PCs, all you need to do is sign in to Sticky Notes 3.0+ on both PCs with your Microsoft account. When you do, your Sticky Notes will automatically appear on the new device. Awesome, right?

However, remember that changes you make on either computer will be reflected on the second computer as well, as notes are continually synced.

How to log in to Sticky Notes

Step 1: Launch the Sticky Notes app on your Windows 10 desktop or laptop. If the app is not available, install it from the following link by clicking the Get button on the Microsoft page.

Download Sticky Notes

We suggest updating the installed app from the link above before proceeding. You will see an Update button (after you hit Get) if an update is available.

Step 2 : If Sticky Notes appear on your desktop, follow this step. Otherwise, if you see a single window containing your Sticky Notes, go to step three.

Tap the three-dot icon present at the top of any note and select Note List from the menu.

Step 3 : On the Sticky Notes list screen, tap the settings gear icon at the top.

Step 4: On the next screen, click Sign in and sign in with your Microsoft account.

Step 5: Repeat the steps above for your other Windows 10 computers. The notes will automatically appear there. Make sure you’re using the updated Sticky Notes app on all computers.

2. Access Sticky Notes on macOS and Windows

Another way to share Sticky Notes is to use the Outlook app for Windows and macOS.

This is what you have to do.

Step 1: I assume you want to share your Windows Sticky Notes with other devices. So, update the Sticky Notes app and sign in to it as shown above.

Step 2: Open the Outlook app on your computer and sign in with the same account you use with your Sticky Notes.

Step 3: In the Outlook app, click on the Notes icon present at the bottom. If it is not available, click on the three-dot icon first and then on the Notes icon.

You’ll find your Sticky Notes happily sitting there.

3. Access sticky notes on any device

Did the above methods not work for you? Don’t worry. This technique can be used on any browsing-capable device – be it your Android phone or tablet, iPhone, iPad, Chromebook, any Windows computer (Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10), and others.

Basically, Sticky Notes now has a web version. This means you can view your notes online at https://www.onenote.com/stickynotes. Open the URL and sign in with the same Microsoft account you use with your Sticky Notes on a Windows 10 computer. Again, any changes you make on either side will be synced and reflected everywhere.

The method has the drawback that you need to visit the website every time. To avoid this, you can create your own Sticky Notes app using Chrome (as shown below). A shortcut icon will be added to your desktop. Click on it to directly view your notes saved in Sticky Notes in a separate window.

Make a Sticky Notes App Using Chrome

Step 1: Launch Google Chrome browser on your PC and open https://www.onenote.com/stickynotes.

Step 2 : Click on the three-dot icon present at the top of Chrome and select More tools followed by Create shortcut.

Sticky Notes Not Working

In case you are unable to share notes using any of the three methods, we suggest you troubleshoot Sticky Notes in the following ways.

1. Update the sticky notes app

As mentioned above, the sync feature is only available on Sticky Notes 3.0+ and above. So please update the app from the Microsoft Store.

2. 2. Disconnecting the application

If the app updates but the notes aren’t syncing, sign out of Sticky Notes on both sides. Then sign back in. To sign out, go to Sticky Notes Settings and click Sign Out. Hopefully, that should fix it.

3. 3. Manual synchronization

Sometimes due to slow internet speeds, syncing does not happen automatically or in real time. To manually sync notes, go to Sticky Notes Settings and then tap the Sync Now option.

Tip: In Sticky Notes Settings, enable Dark mode for your notes.

Here’s how you can sync your Sticky Notes with other computers. Fortunately, the notes are also accessible on your phones (Android and iPhone) using the OneNote apps.

I hope everything goes well. However, if you ever get unlucky enough to lose your precious Sticky Notes, get them back using these methods.
