Banners also serve as markers and indicators in the game. With their help, players can mark important buildings or resources, as well as indicate the boundaries of a certain area.

Resources

To create a banner in Minecraft, you will need:

  • Wool – it can be any color, and each color requires a separate block.
  • Sticks – These can be obtained by chopping down trees or purchased from a traveling merchant.

Craft

The next step in creating a banner in Minecraft is crafting.

Place the mined materials on the workbench as shown in the picture. Put the wool in one of the bottom slots and the sticks in the other.

A banner can have up to six layers of patterns, with new patterns being layered on top of existing ones. Up to 16 layers can be created using commands. There are approximately 23 quadrillion unique banners in total.

You can use any color banner: the design is superimposed on the color. In Java Edition, a loom is used to make patterns. In Bedrock Edition, patterns can be made on either a loom or a crafting table.

Facts

  • There are 16 blank banners in different colors and a variety of templates, each available in each of the 16 colors.
  • One banner can have up to 6 different patterns. The top layer of the banner (or the last added pattern) can be washed off by using it in a cauldron with water.
  • Banners are like signs: they can be placed on the ground or on a wall. They will sway gently, as if in a gentle breeze, regardless of size or location.
  • Banners do not have a collision mask because they are intangible. Entities can move freely on them.
  • Other blocks (including other banners) can be placed on either edge of the banner’s hitbox, which is only one block tall, even though it looks like two blocks. This allows another solid block to be placed above a floor banner or below a wall banner.
  • When a banner is next to a block, its position is determined by the block above it. The banner can be positioned so that it appears half hidden.
  • Banners can also be placed inside items, where they will appear as a model of the item.
  • Banners cannot be damaged by fire, nor can they be moved by pistons.
  • If you rename a banner on the anvil, it will retain the new name when you add a template, but not when you delete it.
