On October 7, the faithful of the Catholic Church celebrate the Day of Our Lady of the Rosary. According to belief, the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Dominic de Guzman, in the Church of Prouille, and gave him her sacred rosary, becoming known as ‘Our Lady of the Rosary’.
However, devotion to Our Lady dates back long before the event and originated with Irish monks, who recited the 150 Psalms. However, since lay people could not read, the monks taught them to recite the 150 Our Fathers, which were later replaced by the famous 150 Hail Marys, giving rise to the Rosary. Meaning of the word ‘Rosary’
