Fatui in Genshin Impact accompany us throughout the story. Some, like Signora or Dottore, act as sharply negative characters, while others, like Tartaglia, carry out their mission without entering into open conflict with the protagonist and the archon of the region.
Capitano is one of the latter. He appeared in the Natlan storyline, and so far he seems like a character with gray morals. But we will see his full development only when the final part of the region’s storyline comes out.
Who is Capitano?
Capitano is the number one Harbinger of Fatui. He is considered the strongest fighter in Teyvat, and we first saw him in the teaser for A Winter Night’s Lazzo, which was dedicated to Signora’s funeral. But the first time he was mentioned was way back in version 1.0, when Fatui Victor said that he wanted to serve under Capitano.
In 5.1 we learned that Capitano is also a survivor of the Kaenri’ah, and that he is over 500 years old. After leaving the fallen kingdom, he spent a long time fighting the Void creatures in Natlan before joining the Fatui.
The Personality of Capitano
The first of the Harbingers is described as a brave and honorable man. Despite being from Fatui, Capitano is respected by both his enemies and allies.
For example, Master Varka of the Knights of the Ordo Favonius described the Harbinger as a man with a will of steel, who hides much under his mask, but is ready to challenge even the gods. He has his own code of honor, does not fight with weakened opponents and is ready to help people if they need it.
As you progress through Natlan’s storyline, it becomes clear that Capitano values the lives of others more than his own. He is truly willing to help the region and may even go against the Archon’s decisions if it helps save more people.
Characters’ opinion
The Fatui describe Capitano as a fair, honest, and fearless warrior. For example, the Wanderer says that he has “no small strength” and “even his doll ears are calloused from endless praise.” Arlecchino, on the other hand, believes that the power of the First Harbinger is a great responsibility, but Capitano would be respected even without his power.
Tartaglia admires him and thinks that his battles are like a real spectacle. He wants to show Capitano his strength one day, but for now he considers his position too low for his attention.
Speaking of other characters, Mika spoke about the hero of our guide in one of his stories, where he said that they encountered Fatui during an expedition. He describes Capitano as a strong warrior with a terrifying presence, who is also difficult to defeat.
In version 3.1, in the “Of Ballads and Cups” event, Mika read a letter from Magister Varka, which also mentioned the Harbinger. According to Jinn, Varka valued no one as highly as the Capitano.
The Power of Capitano
Nahida claimed that the powers of the first trinity of Fatui Harbingers were comparable to those of the Archons. This is also supported by the Natlana quest, where Capitano fought Mavuika on equal terms, although it was apparently not serious.
According to Varka, Capitano is so strong that he can destroy the guardian of the ruins with almost his bare hands. And we have already written above about how the Fatui respect the Harbinger.
Will Capitano be playable?
There have been rumors about whether Capitano will be playable for quite some time now. There was a list of Harbingers with an indication of whether they would be playable, and only a couple of them remained NPCs. So far, we only have 3 examples where a lore villain turned out to be playable: Tartaglia, Arlecchino, and Scaramuccia, now known as the Wanderer.
There is no exact information about whether Capitano will be available in banners, but insiders periodically make hints. For example, datamining enthusiasts found the file “Avatar_Male_Sword_IlCapitano” in the Genshin Impact client. Miruko writes that you shouldn’t expect the character in versions 5.X, and Homdgcat showed his icons for use in a team.
Although there is no exact information, the chances of the hero’s release are quite high. But he may undergo some changes in design, as was the case with the Wanderer.
When will it come out?
So far, the leak roadmap doesn’t give any exact information about when to expect Capitano. Some insiders say that he may come out in Natlan, but not earlier than update 5.5-5.8, while others say that you should wait for him in Snezhnaya.
The developers are also in no hurry to share information, and at the time of writing there was no official data, including drip marketing.
Weapons and the Eye of God
According to the most popular theories, Capitano may take the still empty Hydro two-handed weapon slot. But, as in the case of the hero’s release, these are just rumors. According to other versions, he may have a Pyro or Cryo eye of God, and a one-handed sword as a weapon. There is still no visible decoration with the element on the character’s clothes. We should also not forget about the Eye of Corruption, which is used by the harbingers.
It is also possible that the hero does not have the Eye of God at all. Since his strength is already comparable to the Archons, Capitano can rely solely on the physical properties of his body or use a new element.
Fans have noticed that the Blood Knight artifact set resembles the First Harbinger and could be considered a hint for its gameplay mechanics. The set buffs the wearer’s physical damage, and the mythical hero mentioned in the artifact description wielded a one-handed sword.
The information about the one-handed sword is also indirectly confirmed by the developers. In the fight with Mavuika, Capitano used it. In the animation of the sword and its shape, as well as in the abilities of the Harbinger shown in the cutscene, fans found hints of the character’s Cryo element.
As we can see, there is currently no precise information about Capitano. We can’t even say what kind of weapon the hero uses, let alone when he will be released.
