Discover the wonders of Fontaine in Genshin Impact with this comprehensive guide. From exploring hidden secrets to mastering elemental powers, this guide has you covered.
With the release of Genshin Impact update 4.0 , players have the opportunity to explore a new region, Fontaine, inspired by French culture and fabulous water landscapes. Its territory is filled with interesting locations, exciting quests, and unique characters.
In this article we will tell you in detail about this region, its features and secrets, which many probably don’t even know about.
A little about the region
Fontaine is a Hydro region and the fifth kingdom that the traveler will visit and find answers to their questions. It is located west of Yilong Port in Liyue and northeast of Barsom Hills in Sumeru. You can get to the region on your own, using the anchorage in the north of the Barsom Hills, or during the main storyline. In either case, you will first arrive at the port, from which your journey will begin.
Like all the previous regions, this one also has its own Archon – Furina, known as the goddess of judgment and justice. 500 years ago, during the Archon War, the previous ruler of Fontaine died. Furina took his place. Some people did not accept her and left the kingdom, but there were also those who recognized and even worshiped the new Hydro Archon.
At times she can be capricious and impatient, which strongly resembles a child. Whether she shows this side of herself on purpose or is trying to hide her true feelings remains a mystery to everyone.
There is a prophecy in Fontaine that the kingdom will be flooded and all the people living here will dissolve in the waters of the Primordial Sea. Only the Hydro Archon will remain, crying alone on her throne.
In order to deceive the prophecy, she split herself into two parts – divine and human. Focalors, the divine essence, inhabited the justice machine Oratrix Cardinal, and Furina, the human essence, remained to play the role of the monarch on the throne.
Fontaine Neighborhoods
Fontaine is divided into eight districts, but there are also underwater locations that can be accessed through diving, a unique mechanic specific to this region. For the 4.0 update, the developers even added a new lighting format so you can admire the sea views.
Cours de Fontaine
The area is the central part of the kingdom and is known for its impressive landmarks and architecture, made in the European style of the late 19th century. The city is patrolled by Melusines and special mechs, powered by the power of pneumusia.
The Liffey area
Here is the “Scattered Ruins” of the Hearth House. This orphanage was once a wonderful place, but now lies in disrepair after the events described in the Harlequin Legends quest.
Not far from the Liffey, underwater, is the fortress of Meropides, which serves as a prison for the inhabitants of Fontaine. It is to this fortress that criminals and other accused are sent after being sentenced to serve their sentences.
Institute of Kinetic Energy
It is a research center that studies machines and energy. Many of its inventions benefit Fontaine.
During the research, the Archium core in the field generator overloaded, causing a massive explosion. This destroyed most of the institute, sending several giant blocks of allogravitationally condensed water bodies and the remains of old ruins into the sky.
Forest of the Erinyes
At the top of the mysterious Erinyes Island is the Epicles Opera House, designed as the main building of Fontaine’s court. In addition to court sessions, the building also hosts other performances, such as magic shows.
Beryl District
The beautiful and deserted emerald range in the south of Fontaine. It is here, under the mountains and lakes, that the village of Merusi, where the Melusines live, is hidden.
It is said that the high mountains were once the bones of a gigantic beast named Elinas. Over time, his original form was buried by the forces of wind and earth, and his body became home to numerous creatures.
Bello District
In the south of the Belleau district is a coastal viewpoint, Port Romarin. It is built on the banks of a waterfall and is the starting point for the aquabus that goes to the Cours de Fontaine on the Clementine line.
In addition, the port is located near the border with Sumeru. So the place is always crowded with tourists, traders and book lovers who come from the deserts and tropical forests.
Nostoy District
Petrikor is located on an island in the Nostoy district, offering beautiful views of the Vysokoye More waterfalls. More than a thousand years ago, it was a quiet village that was not yet called Petrikor.
One day, Remus’s army of golems appeared, took away the land, polluted the water, built tall bell towers and fortresses, and Remus’s symphony turned the Fontaines into slaves. But when Remus’s empire fell, the people of Petrichor became free.
Fontaine characters and weapons
The region is diverse in both interesting quests and locations, and unique characters and weapons. At the time of writing this guide, there were 12 playable characters from Fontaine, some of which you can see in the picture below. It is also interesting that although Harlequin is not formally a faction of the region, according to the lore, she grew up in the local Hearth House.
Additionally, Fontaine has two types of Arche energy: Pneuma and Ussia, which provide additional attacks to characters and help in solving puzzles and exploring the kingdom. The mechs that guard the city run on Pneumusia, and every character in the region has buffs from it.
Dungeons and Enemies
There are only seven dungeons in this region. Two of them are underwater, in the Salas Sea Plateau, off the northern shores of the Bello region. There are two dungeons in the north of the Cours de Fontaine.
The remaining dungeons are located in the south of the Beryl region, in the east of Bello Island and in the Nostoy region. See the screenshots for details.
Each new region also adds new types of enemies to the game. Below we will analyze the list of enemies that will await players in Fontaine.
Protogen of clefts
Strange living creatures that mostly appear near Elinas. They look like spheres covered in stones.
Phantasm
Strange elemental creatures that appeared in the waters of Fontaine. They replaced the extinct Oceanids.
Mek
Special mechanical creatures that the Fontaines use for various tasks. Similar to the robots that are often depicted in steampunk.
Spetsmek
These are advanced forms of mechs that have a large amount of health and attack. They most often use special attacks that are enhanced by elements.
Frost and Wind Operatives
The elite of the Fatui and quite difficult opponents. Operatives eliminate targets and solve other tasks, while not having the military ranks that are typical for the Fatui.
Praetorian
A moving statue in the form of a warrior who swings his sword at anyone who dares to invade the territory under his supervision. Found in the Sea of Antiquity.
Mystical creatures
Sea inhabitants of Fontaine, living near the coast and underwater. Cute, but at the same time dangerous creatures. Unfortunately, even if they are peaceful and do not touch you, you will still have to fight them.Fontaine in Genshin Impact is not just a new location, but a whole world of opportunities for exploration and adventure. To learn more about this beautiful region, do not forget to carefully explore every corner and talk to NPCs to receive new quests.
