15 Examples of Obligatory Mad Muttasil Readings

When reading the Qur’an, it is important for us to pay attention to the tajweed in each verse. By understanding and applying the science of tajweed correctly, we can pronounce each letter correctly and maintain the meaning of the holy verses. One of the laws of tajweed that we may often encounter without realizing it is mad wajib muttasil .

Like other rules of tajweed, mad wajib muttasil has its own rules that must be observed so that the reading remains in accordance with the provisions. Therefore, understanding how to read it correctly is important. Come on, read this article to find out more about the meaning, law, and examples of reading mad wajib muttasil in the Qur’an!

What is Mad Wajib Muttasil?

Mad wajib muttasil is one of the rules in the science of tajwid that occurs when the mad letter—such as alif (ا), ya’ (ي), or wawu (و)—meets the hamzah letter (ء) in one word. The existence of this mad serves to clarify and beautify the reading of the Qur’an so that it remains in accordance with the rules of correct pronunciation.

In its application, the obligatory muttasil mad must be read with a length of around 4-5 harakat. This provision is made so that the reading remains melodious, orderly, and does not seem rushed. By paying attention to the length of this reading, the reader can maintain fluency and beauty in reciting the holy verses.

Etymologically, the word “mad” means “to lengthen” or “to add.” Meanwhile, in the science of tajwid, mad refers to the lengthening of the sound when reading certain letters. Therefore, in the case of mad wajib muttasil, the sound must be lengthened according to the established rules to maintain the clarity of meaning and the beauty of the recitation of the verses of the Qur’an.

The Law of Mad Mandatory Muttasil

As the name suggests, the law of reading mad wajib muttasil is mandatory. For that, Grameds must lengthen the reading of the letter according to the rules in the science of tajwid. If not, your reading will be considered wrong – even the meaning will change.

As the most common qira’at in Indonesia, the length of the mandatory mad muttasil in the narration of Hafs ‘an ‘Ashim is 4-5 harakat. In addition, you must also maintain the consistency of the reading in every verse that contains this law.
