As humans, Allah SWT created us with the aim of worshiping Him and also to be tested later to determine the fate of the next human life in the afterlife. To be able to carry out this goal, humans must have faith and piety so that they can carry out all the commands of Allah SWT as well as possible. If not, then it will definitely lead to laziness in carrying out all His commands.

Without faith and piety, humans will not be able to live their lives with the consent and guidance of Allah SWT. Therefore, faith and piety can save us not only in the world but also in the hereafter. Therefore, faith is the foundation of human life.

People who live without faith and piety are like a house without a strong foundation and roots. So, it will easily become fragile and collapse and will not even be able to protect the people inside it. Likewise with faith and piety, it will protect from various kinds of misguidance, depression, and also various other disasters in human life.

To increase our faith and devotion to Allah SWT, there are several ways we can do it. The following is a complete explanation.

1. Improve Prayer

To be able to increase faith and piety, one way that needs to be done is to improve prayer. Because prayer alone is not enough, but still requires prayer that is solemn and also quality. That is the prayer that reflects a person’s faith and piety. This has also been conveyed in a verse in the Quran, which means:

“Read what has been revealed to you, namely the Book (Al Quran) and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prevents evil and evil (deeds). And indeed the remembrance of Allah (prayer) is greater (in priority than other acts of worship). And Allah knows what you do” (QS Al Ankabut: 45)

In addition to obligatory prayers, you can also perform sunnah prayers such as the Taubat Prayer, Lailatul Qadar, the Night Before Bed, and so on.

2. Contemplating the Quran

Where can we believe and also have devotion to Allah SWT? Of course, the most important source is the Koran which gives us guidance. Therefore, in increasing faith and piety, reading the source is the most appropriate way.

By reading the Quran, not only reading the text but contemplating it, and making the Quran a guide to life in the world. This is in accordance with what Allah SWT has conveyed in Surah Yunus verse 37, which means:

“It is impossible for this Al-Quran to have been made by anyone other than Allah; however (the Al-Quran) confirms the previous books and explains the laws that it has established, there is no doubt in them, (revealed) from the Lord of the worlds.”

So, contemplating the Quran is something that must be done and when we have studied it, then conviction will emerge and there will be no doubt whatsoever in our hearts.

Tawhid is the core teaching of Islam. This is one of the wisdoms of believing in Allah SWT that we will get. In addition, Tawhid is also the most important thing in the life of a servant because it plays a role as a condition for the acceptance of worship in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. 3. Gather with pious people

One way to increase faith and piety is by socializing with pious people. Pious people will certainly always try to cultivate their faith. While if we are with them, we will be motivated and enthusiastic to carry out all the commands of Allah SWT.

Humans themselves are social creatures, needing friends and companions so that their lives are directed and there is encouragement from outside. Therefore, look for pious people. Form interactions with them and let us socialize and remind each other in goodness.

4. Studying Religious Knowledge

Knowledge is a light that can illuminate the course of our lives as humans, from birth to death. In addition, knowledge is also like a product packaging that wraps humans. That means, if the knowledge obtained by humans is getting better and higher, then the packaging or appearance will be better.

So, seeking and also studying religious knowledge is a must to help increase one’s faith. Because, not understanding something will change into understanding if we study it. Thus, our level of faith can strengthen itself.

5. Attending the Science Assembly

The next way to increase faith is by attending a science assembly. In the assembly, there will usually be many pious people who share their knowledge which is useful to be understood by the attendees there. We can use this to increase the various kinds of religious knowledge that we need.

As we have discussed before that knowledge can be a way to increase faith. In the Quran it has also been explained about this, which means:

“O you who believe, if it is said to you: “Stand up in the assembly”, then be spacious, Allah will surely make room for you. And if it is said: “Stand up”, then stand up, Allah will surely raise those who believe among you and those who have been given knowledge by several degrees. And Allah is All-Knowing of what you do.” (QS Al Mujadilah: 11).

6. Increase Zikr

The next way to maintain faith is by increasing dhikr. By dhikr, it means that we are remembering Allah SWT. It should be understood that dhikr is not always in the form of long readings or in various counts. Dhikr remembering Allah SWT can be done in any way, anytime, anywhere, and no matter how many words of dhikr we say.

Remembering all the laws of Allah SWT, commands, prohibitions, laws of knowledge that exist in this world, or punishments or punishments of Allah SWT. Therefore, people who often remember Allah SWT will be closer to Allah SWT and love Allah SWT’s law more.

7. Reading Islamic Books

The next way to maintain and increase faith is by reading Islamic books. One source of a person’s faith is the knowledge they have. Knowledge will increase the faith and piety of a servant. One way to maintain faith is by routinely or diligently reading Islamic books inherited by scholars or people who have the right knowledge.

8. Do a Self Evaluation

This self-evaluation is done to be able to continue to increase the faith and piety of a servant. This self-evaluation is one way to measure how far we have believed and carried out all the commands of Allah SWT. This evaluation must be done by oneself, not by others. For that, the one who can measure it is oneself. Because, we are the ones who know better about how our faith and piety are before Allah SWT.

9. Stay away from bad environments

The next way to maintain faith is to stay away from bad environments. If we feel that we cannot avoid various forms of sin, then the simplest choice we can choose is to stay away from bad environments until the strength of our faith and piety begins to increase.

Taking care of yourself is better than having to stay in an environment that makes us worse. However, staying away from a bad environment does not mean that we have to be closed or exclusive, so that there is no interaction between each other.

10. Sharpen your mind and avoid lust

Not giving in to our desires is one way to increase our faith. As Allah SWT says in the Koran which means:

“And among the signs of His power, He shows you lightning to (give rise to) fear and hope, and He sends down rain from the sky, then revives the earth with that water after it dies. Verily in this there are truly signs for a people who use their minds.” (QS Ar-Rum: 24)

The verse above shows that faith and fear of Allah SWT will only appear if we use the right reason.
