Guide with all the hidden secrets of Dragon Ball FighterZ

Welcome to this handy guide to the secrets hidden within the wonderful Dragon Ball FighterZ , the new game from Arc System Works and Bandai Namco based on the most famous manga and anime of all time. In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock all the characters in the game, the different combinations you’ll need to create dramatic scenes just like in the series, and finally, you’ll discover the purpose of the famous colored box next to your name in the lobby  and the different multiplayer ranks.

Secret Characters

There are a total of three hidden characters in the video game. These characters could also be obtained by pre-ordering the game, but if you didn’t have that opportunity, here are several ways to unlock Son Goku and Vegeta transformed into Super Saiyan Blue, as well as Majin Android 21, a character designed by Akira Toriyama himself.

Son Goku Super Saiyan Blue (SSB)

There are four ways to get Son Goku in Super Saiyan God form, summarized by Whis himself as Super Saiyan Blue:

  1. Pre-order  Dragon Ball FighterZ before its release.
  2. Earn a total of 500,000 Zenis throughout the game to unlock the character without having to visit the lobby shop . You won’t lose the Zenis you’ve earned; you don’t need to accumulate or save that amount, just earn or spend it.
  3. You must complete the Hyperbolic Time Chamber path (seven fights) on hard mode with an A rank or higher. Quite a challenge.
  4. In Story Mode, reaching level 40 with Super Saiyan Goku will unlock the Super Saiyan Blue version, allowing you to continue the story with that character. This unlock is only available in Story Mode ; you will not be able to use it in online or offline matches.

Vegeta Super Saiyan Blue (SSB)

Just like his eternal rival, there are also four ways to get the Prince of Saiyans in Super Saiyan Blue:

  1. Just like Goku, with the pre-order of  Dragon Ball FighterZ before its release.
  2. Obtain a total of 300,000 Zenis throughout the game; this will unlock the character. As with the previous character, you will not lose the Zenis you have earned; you only need to have earned or spent them.
  3. You must complete the Extreme Gravity Ship path on hard mode (five fights) with an A rank or higher; it is a little more accessible than the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but it is still quite a challenge.
  4. In Story Mode, reaching level 40 with Super Saiyan Vegeta will unlock Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta. Similar to Super Saiyan Blue Goku, this form is only unlocked for Story Mode ; you won’t be able to use it in online or offline matches.

Majin Android 21

Unlike the two previous secret characters, there’s only one way to unlock Majin Android (the evil version of Android 21 possessed by Majin Buu’s rogue cells). You’ll need to complete all three main story arcs. The story mode is quite long, and sometimes rather tedious; it took us about ten hours to complete, not counting side quests.

Golden Freezer

I know! I know! Golden Frieza isn’t a secret character; he’s a temporary transformation of the base character, Frieza. The Emperor of Evil’s ultimate attack is the golden transformation, which consumes three bars of Ki, can only be used once per battle, and lasts a mere 20 seconds. But very few people actually know what this transformation is for, so we’ll tell you.

Golden Frieza boasts increased speed, deals 20% more damage, and can perform a Double Air Dash (in mid-air). This transformation makes Frieza one of the fastest and most lethal characters in the game. Its only drawback is that it lasts a mere 20 seconds, leaving you completely vulnerable when the timer expires. This is where Sorbet comes in. Just like in the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ movies and Dragon Ball Super, Sorbet, Frieza’s henchman, will fire at your opponent . To do this, you must press RB once you’re lying on the ground after completing the transformation.

Dramatic Scenes | Spectacular Finale

One of the reasons for  Dragon Ball FighterZ ‘s success  is undoubtedly the care and attention to detail put into it by Arc System Works, as evidenced by the inclusion of Dramatic Scenes and Spectacular Endings. These scenes and endings recreate epic moments from the Dragon Ball series, and below we’ll show you which combinations you’ll need to use to experience these amazing moments:

Dramatic Scenes

Krillin vs Nappa

  • Krillin and Nappa should be the first fighters respectively.
  • Setting: Rocky field.

Son Goku Super Saiyan vs Frieza

  • Son Goku Super Saiyan and Frieza should be the first fighters respectively.
  • Setting: Namek.
  • Krillin shouldn’t be on any team

Son Gohan vs Perfect Cell

  • Young Son Gohan and Perfect Cell should be the first fighters respectively.
  • Setting: Cell Game.
  • Android 16 should not be on any device.

Spectacular Finale

To create spectacular finishes (also called Dramatic Finishes), you must be in a specific setting and, like in dramatic scenes, with two specific characters. You must defeat your opponent with a hit using the B key, and if you do it correctly, you’ll see different scenes from the anime. Below, we reveal which combinations you need to use:

Nappa defeats Yamcha

Yamcha defeats Nappa (game exclusive ending)

Son Goku Super Saiyan beats Frieza

  • Scenario: Namek destroyed (for this we must first make a final attack on Namek).

Trunks defeats Frieza

Young Son Gohan defeats Perfect Cell

Son Goku Super Saiyan beats Kid Buu

  • Setting: World of the KaiohShin.

Beerus defeats Goku Black (with ultimate attack)

There’s another small scene that recreates the anime, in this case, Dragon Ball Super. To perform it, you must defeat Goku Black with Beerus’s ultimate attack, thus activating Hakai (Destruction). Beerus only uses this finishing move against Goku Black; it’s a slight variation from the anime, as in this way, the God of Destruction of Universe 7 eliminates Zamasu from the present.

DLC 1 | FighterZ Pass (Bardock & Broly)

Son Goku Super Saiyan beats Broly

Adult Son Gohan defeats Broly

Freezer defeats Bardock

DLC 2 | FighterZ Pass (Vegetto Blue & Fused Zamasu)

Vegetto Blue defeats Fused Zamasu

  • Setting: West City (destroyed)

Trunks defeats Fused Zamasu

  • Setting: West City (destroyed)

DLC 3 | FighterZ Pass (base Son Goku & base Vegeta)

Son Goku base beats base Vegeta

Base Son Goku defeats Frieza

There are other scenes that Arc System Works has included in the game that are quite detailed, which all Dragon Ball fans will appreciate; here are a few:

  • If we have Adult Gohan and Super Saiyan Son Goku in our team, when doing the ultimate attack, Gohan will do a triple Kamehameha with Son Goku and Son Goten.
  • If we bring our Android 18 and Krillin, the Android’s ultimate attack will not be with Android 17 but with Krillin.
  • If we have Gotenks Super Saiyan 3 and Piccolo on the team, when we do the ultimate attack the Namekian will help us with a great Volleyball move.

DLC 4 | FighterZ Pass (Cooler & Android 17) + Free Halloween Update

At the end of September, Dragon Ball FighterZ concluded its season pass with the fourth DLC, the addition of Android 17 and Cooler (who unfortunately don’t have any Dramatic Finishers)  , and a free update for Halloween. New colors were added to alternate costumes for the characters, predominantly black, orange, white, and purple, all in keeping with the American holiday. New titles like Super Saiyan Rose, Ultra Instinct, and Super Saiyan Blue Evolved were also added, along with expressions, and some characters even dressed up for the occasion in the game’s lobby.

New Stage: Galactic Arena

With the new (completely free) update, Arc System Works and Bandai Namco add a new stage that will remind many of stages we have already seen in the Guilty Gear saga; in it we can see the secondary characters of our team and the special attacks.

DLC 1 | FighterZ Pass 2 (Jiren & Videl)

On January 31st, the highly anticipated second season pass for Dragon Ball FighterZ, called FighterZ Pass 2, arrived. The pass includes six characters, all of whom have already been revealed except for one that has not been officially confirmed by Bandai Namco. On that same day, January 31st, Jiren, the most powerful warrior of Universe 11, and Videl, wife of Son Gohan and daughter of Mr. Satan, became available to anyone who purchased FighterZ Pass 2. Unfortunately, neither character has a Dramatic Finisher , but Videl does have a unique feature that sets her apart from the other characters: she has an alternate costume.

Videl’s Hairstyle Change

  • To unlock Videl’s appearance with pigtails, prior to her training with Son Gohan, we simply need to press LB in the game’s roster .

DLC 2 | FighterZ Pass 2 (Goku GT)

On May 9th, Goku Day, Bandai Namco released the third character of Dragon Ball FighterZ’s second season. This marks the first time in the game’s history that a character has been released entirely on its own, without any DLC partners. Goku GT is the first Dragon Ball GT character to appear in Dragon Ball FighterZ. What truly stands out about this new character is undoubtedly his size, reminiscent not only of Dragon Ball GT but also of the early episodes of Akira Toriyama’s series. This is why Arc System Works designed the character with the iconic red staff that accompanied Goku in the first part of his adventure. Goku GT doesn’t have a Dramatic Finisher, but he does possess a few secrets; the ability to transform into Super Saiyan 4 is undoubtedly the most acclaimed feature by fans.

Goku GT’s transformation into Super Saiyan 4

  • Unfortunately for many, the transformation into Super Saiyan 4 is quite short and can only be achieved under one condition: you must perform the Dragon Fist Explosion attack with a character from your team eliminated.

Goku GT’s transformation into Super Saiyan 3

  • When performing the Super Kamehameha with a character from your eliminated team, Son Goku GT will perform the Kamehameha transformed into Super Saiyan 3.

  • Another characteristic of the character is that his second outfit is a carbon copy of the one we saw in Son Goku’s first adventures.

Upcoming DLCs | FighterZ Pass 2

Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta and the new Broly from the Dragon Ball Super movie have been confirmed. Their release dates are unknown, and one more character remains to be revealed. However, thanks to “our” Major Nelson, during a video published on the official Xbox YouTube channel called  Ghost Recon BREAKPOINT and More Xbox Updates ,  he indicated  that to celebrate Goku Day, they were presenting  new  skins  for Goku GT and Janemba . It certainly seems likely that the demon we saw in the “Fusion” movie will be the new DLC character for Dragon Ball FighterZ. We’ll keep you updated.

Competitive online mode

Online multiplayer is one of the most appealing modes in Dragon Ball FighterZ , and also one of the most addictive. The game evaluates your skill with  Combat Points  (CP), which are added to or subtracted from your total as you win or lose. The game calculates how you win or lose.

For example, if we get soundly beaten and haven’t been able to defeat a single opponent, especially if they’re of a lower rank, we’ll be penalized. However, if we fight a higher-ranked player and lose, we won’t lose as many points. The same applies to winning: if we beat someone of a higher rank, we’ll receive a lot of Combat Points, whereas if we beat a lower-ranked player, we’ll receive very few.

Dragon Ball FighterZ has created fifteen different ranks based on our earned PC, and they are as follows:

RANGE

COMBAT POINTS

Living Legend 1,000,000+
Super Saiyan Blue 900,000 – 999,999
Super Saiyan God 800,000 – 899,999
Monster 700,000 – 799,999
Super Saiyan 3 600,000 – 699,999
Devil 500,000 – 599,999
KaiohShin 400,000 – 499,999
Super Saiyan 2 330,000 – 399,999
Android 270,000 – 329,999
Super Saiyan 220,000 – 269,999
Frieza’s Clan 170,000 – 219,999
Saiyan 120,000 – 169,999
Namekian 70,000 – 119,999
Earthling 30,000 – 69,999
Saibaman 0 – 29,999

Color ranges

Each character in the Dragon Ball FighterZ lobby has a square to the left of their name or gamertag (depending on your settings), and many have wondered what these colors mean. Well, the colors indicate the fighter’s online level .

Everyone starts with a gray square, meaning the game doesn’t have enough data to assess your skill level. After playing thirty online matches, the game assigns you your first color. The usual color is light green, but it can go up or down as you win or lose matches. This includes all online modes: ranked, casual, arena, and ring. Below is a graph that perfectly illustrates what we’ve just discussed.
