Leon’s Legacy and the Ashcrofts’ Secrets: What’s Known About the Resident Evil Requiem DLC

Capcom has chosen a strategy of gradually adding content to the game. The first stage will be a major free patch, scheduled for May 2026. The update won’t feature any new plot twists or stories, but it will add some gameplay features and some fresh content.

For example, Photo Mode, which allows players to capture eerily detailed RE Engine-powered locations, was already released with a minor update on March 27.

A new mini-mode is also planned. The developers haven’t specified what exactly it will be, but fans are speculating that the classic “The Mercenaries” mode will return. In previous installments, this mode allowed players to complete challenges as different story-driven characters, mostly involving shooting monsters or zombies.

The development of the add-on itself will proceed in parallel with the creation of the patch.

What to expect in the Requiem expansion

Details about the expansion are still being kept under wraps, but Koshi Nakanishi promised that it will reveal new aspects of the game’s world. He also warned that development will take time and asked players to be patient. Incidentally, whether as a joke or intentionally, the director revealed several… to put it mildly, unexpected images. One of them featured Leon Kennedy, looking straight out of a romance novel cover. Needless to say, fans are already racing to speculate about this photo.

Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong

Perhaps the most talked-about moment in Resident Evil Requiem is the wedding ring on Leon’s hand. In the main game, the identity of his wife is never revealed, leaving fans awash with theories. Well, shippers, rejoice.

According to a well-known insider nicknamed Dusk Golem, the upcoming expansion for Resident Evil Requiem will likely feature one of the series’ most popular characters, Ada Wong. In fact, fans now rightly believe that Ms. Wong has become Leon’s love interest and should now be called Mrs. Kennedy.

Insider DuskGolem claims there’s been a “leak” hinting at Ada Wong’s appearance in the expansion. He declined to elaborate to avoid compromising his source, but noted that the information appears plausible.

The expansion is expected to take place shortly before the main game. Clearly, where there’s Ada Wong, there’s Leon Kennedy. Perhaps the expansion will reveal how the franchise’s two most charismatic characters finally decided to tie the knot. But perhaps we shouldn’t expect a family getaway in a lake house: a new biological threat will surely knock on the door.

Alyssa Ashcroft

While the first part of the expansion, as rumored, will focus on Leon, the second could be a real treat for series veterans. Remember the tutorial segment in the hotel? It’s where Grace Ashcroft searches for the truth about her mother, Alyssa. For those who played Resident Evil Outbreak, that name isn’t just a cliche. Alyssa Ashcroft was a journalist who survived Raccoon City.

Insider DuskGolem has heard “talk about a RE9 DLC featuring Alyssa.” It’s possible Alyssa will only appear in isolated cameos or flashbacks, but many are hoping for a full-fledged playable role. This would allow Capcom to fill in the gaps in the story of Victor Gideon’s experiments and show how the events of 1998 reverberate in 2026.

This approach would allow for the series’ classic gameplay—with tight corridors, challenging puzzles, and resource scarcity. In this way, the developers would carry over the core concept from the main game. Alyssa’s frightening and tense segments would be interspersed with the dynamic carnage of Leon’s—as Requiem demonstrated, this works brilliantly.

Chris Redfield

The ending of the main game hinted at a global conspiracy within the Bioterrorism Security Alliance (BSAA) and the possible return of Chris Redfield as a character. In the canonical ending, Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft receive aid from Chris’s squad, the Hounds of Wolves. A post-credits scene shows unknown soldiers dispatching the Hounds of Wolves and destroying evidence. While nothing is clear yet, Capcom decided to leave it at that cliffhanger. Perhaps the expansion will expand on this story and reveal more details. Or perhaps this is a setup for the next installment.

Technical details

Capcom confirmed that the expansion will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Particular attention is being paid to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Likely, the expansion (like the main game) will run natively on Nintendo’s new console, without relying on cloud computing. Furthermore, ray tracing and facial detail, judging by benchmarks of the main game, will be excellent.

The Resident Evil Requiem story expansion is an important bridge to the future of the series. It aims to draw a line under the story of the “old guard” and finally pass the baton to new heroes like Grace.

While we wait for the official trailer, rumored to be shown at one of the summer game presentations in 2026, one thing is clear: Capcom has no intention of slowing down. Requiem is already being called one of the best games in the series, and the upcoming expansion has every chance of becoming the benchmark just as Separate Ways did for the fourth game.

We can only wonder if we’ll see Leon and Ada’s wedding in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, or if the ring on their finger is just a bitter reminder that shippers’ dreams aren’t always destined to come true.
