Razor officially celebrates his birthday on September 9th, a date that has remained unchanged since the early years of Genshin Impact. His constellation is called Lupus Minor, meaning “Nimble Wolf Cub,” and Razor himself lives among the wolves in Wolfendom.
However, there’s a curious detail: from Razor’s perspective, his true human origins are shrouded in mystery. Abandoned as an infant and raised among wolves, he has no memory of his parents or his own birth. He later met Varka, who named him and gradually introduced him to the human world.
The most important connection is not with the actual holiday, but with the image of Razor
There are some theories online that the developers chose September 9th because of the various holidays and symbolic meanings associated with the date. For example, September 9th is Chrysanthemum Day in the Japanese calendar and is associated with the traditional Kiku-no-Sekku festival. However, there is no confirmation that this was the reason for choosing Razor’s birthday.
Therefore, the most reliable conclusion is much more prosaic: HoYoverse simply assigned Razor the beautiful 9/9 number combination, which suits the character well thanks to his Lupus Minor constellation and the constant theme of his connection to the pack. This is also an interpretation, not an officially stated reason.
Razor’s own congratulations, however, clearly demonstrate how he views this concept. In his first surviving letter from 2021, he speaks of his birth and the joy it brought him. In subsequent years, this theme becomes even more prominent: he recalls encounters, smells, shared hunts, and connections with friends.
The connection with September 9th is remembered as visual
Despite the lack of obvious references or connections to the date, September 9th remains one of the most memorable combinations: the same month and day. But all this is just conjecture, as HoYoverse hasn’t publicly explained why it chose this particular date. Perhaps this ignorance is even symbolic for Razor: he may not remember the moment of his birth, but he knows the exact day on which Lupical and his friends gather with him.
