How to tag people on WhatsApp from Android and iOS smartphones
Launch the WhatsApp application from your Android or iOS device and go to the chats tab, select the contact you want to tag and tap on the chat bar to write a message. At this point you can start writing your message or simply add the tag by typing @ (at) , you can recall the special characters by pressing ?123 at the bottom left . Now all you have to do is select the contact’s name and send the message by clicking on the airplane icon on the right of the writing bar. If no contact appears when you type the at sign, then we recommend that you update the WhatsApp application to the latest version. You can do this on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. In older versions it is not possible to tag people, therefore, you are “forced” to download the update.
How to tag people on WhatsApp from PC
Maybe you are used to using WhatsApp especially on your personal computer, but you can’t find the function button to tag people . First of all, it is important to know that you can exploit the potential of WhatsApp Web without any problem by simply scanning the QR code on the screen and synchronizing your smartphone, iOS or Android. Once logged in to WhatsApp Web, simply click on the chat of the contact you want to send the tag to and type @ (at) in the writing bar . To view the at sign within the text, press the Alt Gr+@ key combination on your Windows keyboard and Option+@ if you have a macOS. Once you have inserted the at sign, all you have to do is select the contact by writing their name next to it and send the tag by clicking on the paper airplane icon. For WhatsApp Web there are Chrome and Firefox extensions , such as TagEveryone , which however we do not recommend installing on a PC and giving access to your WhatsApp data.
How to tag messages on WhatsApp
But in addition to tagging people, with the new WhatsApp functions you can also tag messages , so you always have them at hand. Also in this case you can do it from your smartphone or computer.
How to tag messages on Android and iOS smartphones
Proceed to launch the WhatsApp app and once the main chat page is displayed, tap on the name of the contact in which the message to tag is present. If you have several lines of text and can’t find the message you want, just press the three dots at the top right and select Search . Type a keyword and all the messages in which you entered it will appear. Now that you have displayed the message to be tagged on the screen, if you are on Android, press the arrow at the top to the left to reply or to the right to forward the message or the Reply item on iOS . After this action, a reference to the message will appear at the bottom of the screen, highlighting it in a slightly lighter color. As with the tagging of people, you can also tag messages with WhatsApp Web . The procedure is very similar to the mobile version, in fact, all you have to do is start WhatsApp Web from your web browser or WhatsApp Desktop and select the chat in which the message is present. Tagging a person or a message with the reference is very simple as you have noticed, just type the at symbol and choose one of the contacts that will appear. But what if I wanted to tag an entire WhatsApp group ? Although with the latest update tagging a message and a person on WhatsApp is very easy, unfortunately it is not yet possible to tag an entire group . In fact, the only solution is to tag one or more people at the same time within a group , but there is no possibility of doing this in a single function .
Then, you will have to start WhatsApp, open the group to which you intend to send the tag and once you have typed the at sign, individually select all the contacts you want to tag . We cannot rule out the fact that the platform will also include this function in the future, but at the time we are writing this guide it is not yet possible to do so. There are likely still several conditions to be met regarding privacy and end -to-end encryption .
How to tag a person on WhatsApp Status
Maybe you’re wondering if it’s possible to tag a person you know in your WhatsApp status, right? When you access the Info section of this application you can insert images, mini videos and writings to interact with your contacts like a traditional social network.
Unfortunately, this application does not allow us to tag our friends and contacts directly within the WhatsApp status . The WhatsApp tag in this case would not work, not even if you typed the snail while creating the status. The only way to bypass this limit is to tag your contact by writing their name directly in your Status . In this case, however, if your contact does not display the status you published, the tag will be completely useless.
How to tag a person in WhatsApp Stories
WhatsApp tag doesn’t even work within the application’s Stories , just like the Status. You therefore do not have the possibility to interact with your contacts by tagging them in a new Story.
As with the State, the only way to stem this problem is to write the name of the contact in the Story , hoping that your friend, colleague or acquaintance will view it within 24 hours of publication. Also in this case we don’t know if in the future the function for tagging within Stories will be implemented just like on Instagram and similar.
How not to get tagged on WhatsApp
Does the idea of getting tagged on WhatsApp scare you? Then you should think of a solution to block potential tags . So that you don’t get tagged you could limit the function to be added to groups . To do this, go to Settings , Privacy , Groups and select the My contacts except… option . Then go to Settings , Privacy and Info , select None here too .
