Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for PC, PS4 and Xbox One has four endings: Shura, Abandonment of Immortality, Purification, and Return. Here’s how to unlock them all.
There are four different endings in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for PC , PS4 and Xbox One . We will get to one or the other depending on the decisions we make during the adventure. On this page of our complete Sekiro guide we tell you how to get all the endings :
How to get the Shura ending in Sekiro
Before you begin the process to reach this end, we warn you of several things:
The Shura ending is the Sekiro ending that ends the game earlier than “scheduled” . You’ll encounter two unique bosses on this playthrough, but you’ll lose access to the Fountainhead Palace this playthrough , and therefore all the items there, such as prayer beads and pumpkin seeds .
It is, on a plot level, the worst possible ending .
To reach the final Shura, we must perform all these steps, in this order :
We advance in the game normally until we reach Ashina Castle invaded by shinobi. We must reach the highest part of the castle, where we will meet the Owl .
We talk to him and choose the option “ Obey the Iron Code and betray Kuro ”. He will ask us again; we confirm this decision.
After a scene, we will have to face Emma, the Gentle Sword , and, when we defeat her, Isshin Ashina .
Once we defeat them, we will see the Shura ending and, after it, the credits.
With the game completed with the Shura ending, we can start New Game+ using the option given to us here in the game itself, or, if we don’t want to do it at this time, we can do it whenever we want at the Sculptor’s Idol in the Desolate Temple of Ashina Outskirts.
As you can see, the Shura ending is the easiest ending to get in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. If you don’t care about the plot consequences and want to complete the game as quickly as possible, this is the ending for you .
How to get the Abandonment of Immortality ending in Sekiro
To reach the end of Abandonment of Immortality, we must perform all these steps, in this order :
We advance in the game normally until we reach Ashina Castle invaded by shinobi. We must reach the highest part of the castle, where we will meet the Owl .
We talk to him, and choose the option ” Disobey the Iron Code and be loyal to Kuro “. Once this is done, we will have to face the Great Owl Shinobi .
We advance in the game normally, completing the Spring Palace .
With the Spring Palace completed, we return to Ashina Castle at war . We’ll have to return to Ashina Reservoir, where we’ll face Genichiro, Tomoe’s path , and Isshin, master swordsman .
Once we have defeated Isshin, the master swordsman, Kuro will be on the ground , in the same area where we fought. We can interact with him and, depending on the items we have in our inventory, start one of three possible endings at this point in the game.
We chose to give him ONLY the Divine Dragon’s Tears . We will see the Abandonment of Immortality ending and after it, the credits.
With the game completed with the Abandonment of Immortality ending, we can start New Game+ using the option given to us here in the game itself, or, if we don’t want to do it at this time, we can do it whenever we want at the Sculptor’s Idol in the Desolate Temple in Ashina Outskirts.
Plot-wise, the ending Abandonment of Immortality is bittersweet. It’s not the true ending . However, it’s not the worst possible ending .
How to get the Purification ending in Sekiro
To reach the final Purification, we must perform all these steps, in this order :
We complete the normal Hirata Estate , reaching the Butterfly Lady , and defeating her.
We must continue with the game normally until we reach the invaded Ashina Castle .
Once at the top, we must speak to the Owl , remain loyal to Kuro and disobey the Iron Code . We will have to face the Great Owl Shinobi , and kill him. After this, we can enter Kuro’s room . We exhaust all the dialogues with the Celestial Descendant, and with Emma.
We have to spy on Kuro in his room . In his conversation he will say that he will do “what needs to be done”.
We rest at an idol, go up the stairs and talk to her about Kuro . We have to agree with her: Kuro must not die . We go back down the stairs, and rest at the idol again .
We go back up and talk to Emma again . She will give us Tomoe’s Note .
We travel to the idol – Ancient Tomb of Ashina Castle . Emma will be in the tombs on the left. We talk to her .
We travel to the idol – Desolate Temple in Ashina Outskirts . We go behind the temple, and spy on Emma and the Sculptor .
We talk to Emma and when given the option, we choose to “ ask about what we heard ”. When given another option, we choose to “ ask what she is hiding ”.
We will obtain the Father’s Bell Amulet . With this object in our possession, we interact with the Kind-Faced Buddha of the Desolate Temple , and we will teleport to the Hirata Estate – Purification .
We complete this area by reaching the end and killing the Owl (father) . He will give us the Aromatic Flower , necessary to obtain the Purification ending.
We chose to give her the Divine Dragon’s Tears and Everflower . We will see the Purification ending and, after it, the credits.
With the game completed with the Purification ending, we can start New Game+ using the option given to us here in the game itself, or, if we don’t want to do it at this time, we can do it whenever we want at the Sculptor’s Idol in the Desolate Temple in Ashina Outskirts.
Plot-wise, the Purification ending is bittersweet. It’s not the true ending . However, it’s not the worst possible ending .
How to get the Return ending in Sekiro
To get to the final Return, we must perform all these steps, in this order :
We advance in the game normally until we reach Ashina Castle invaded by shinobi. We must reach the highest part of the castle, where we will meet the Owl .
We talk to him, and choose the option ” Disobey the Iron Code and be loyal to Kuro “. Once this is done, we will have to face the Great Owl Shinobi .
We travel to the Idol – Senpo Temple Grounds , Mount Kongo , and pick up the Sacred Chapter: Plagued item from the bottom of the pond.
We travel to the Idol – Sanctum Sanctorum of Senpo Temple, Mount Kongo, and speak with the Celestial Child . We give her the item Sacred Chapter: Plagued .
We ask the Celestial Girl for rice . If we can’t, it’s because we already have some in our inventory; we’ll have to consume all the rice we have and rest at any idol so that, when we talk to the Celestial Girl again, she can give us rice.
We consume the rice obtained, and rest at the idol. We speak to her again and ask for rice again. We repeat the process until the Celestial Girl is exhausted . We ask for rice once more .
When you restart the area, the Celestial Girl will feel unwell, and will ask you for a persimmon . You can get one by going to the Shugendo Idol at Senpo Temple, Mount Kongo. From here, if you turn around, you will see some wooden platforms running along the cliff. They will take you to the Shugendo Offerers merchant NPC . You can buy a persimmon from him for 30 sen. Return to the Celestial Girl, and give her the persimmon . You will get rice, and rice for Kuro .
We travel to Kuro’s room in the shinobi- invaded Ashina Castle and give him the rice for Kuro that the Celestial Child gave us. We rest at the nearby idol.
We talk to Kuro again, and he will give us a sweet rice ball . We eat it right in front of Kuro , and we exhaust all his dialogues by talking to him.
We return to the Celestial Child , and speak with her. We rest at the nearby idol, and we will see that it has disappeared.
We travel to the Halls of Illusion through the nearby pillar of light—we are still in the Sanctum Sanctorum—and once here, we speak to the Celestial Child .
We must travel to the Idol – Main Hall of Senpo Temple, Mount Kongo . Once here, we go outside, and we go through the cave near the exit on the left side until we reach almost the end. Here we should find a corpse of a plagued monk that contains the item Sacred Chapter: The Return of the Dragon . We return to the Sanctum Sanctorum, and we give this item to the Celestial Girl .
The next step is to give the Heavenly Girl the two “persimmons” : dried snake entrails , and fresh snake entrails :
To get the dried snake entrails, go to the idol – Boddhisattva Valley of the Sunken Valley Passage . We advance towards the canyon, and go down to the lower level until we reach a cave. We have to go through it until we reach a point where there is a solitary monkey with which we have to use the puppeteer’s ninjutsu so that it acts as bait and the giant snake attacks it. When this happens, we advance where the giant snake’s head was. When we go through a small temple, just in front, on an altar, we will find the dried snake entrails .
To get the Fresh Snake Guts, go to the Idol – Senpo Temple, Mount Kongo , in the same area. Go down to the right until you reach the enemy who is near a shinobi kite mechanism. Use the puppeteer’s ninjutsu on him, and he will activate it, deploying the kite. Once this is done, you must advance through the area until you reach the temple where there is an immortal priest guarding a pumpkin seed, and near whose window facing outside there is an old woman praying on a cliff. Go up a huge tree looking for the kite, and use it as a hook point to reach the other side of the ravine. From here, continue down using the hook on trees until you reach a cave where the Idol – Cave of the Sunken Valley is . From here, go along the only available path until you reach a wooden beam. Just below you will see a giant snake. If you jump on it, you will deal a mortal blow, and automatically obtain the Fresh Snake Guts .
We return to the Sanctum Sanctorum, and give the two types of snake entrails to the Celestial Child . She will not want to eat them in front of us, so we have to rest at the idol, and, having done this, spy on her .
We return to Kuro, and we carry out all the necessary steps to create the incense of the spring . We need the lotus of the palace , and the shelter stone .
We return to the Celestial Girl , and she will give us the frozen tears after talking to her.
We chose to give him Dragon’s Tears and Frozen Tears . We will see the ending Return and after that, the credits.
With the game completed with the Abandonment of Immortality ending, we can start New Game+ using the option given to us here in the game itself, or, if we don’t want to do it at this time, we can do it whenever we want at the Sculptor’s Idol in the Desolate Temple in Ashina Outskirts.
