ChatGPT GPTs are customized versions of the chatbot that are used to perform specialized tasks. It is as if each GPT helps ChatGPT focus on a specific job.

OpenAI has opened a kind of store from which you can access GPTs, which are free . At least, all the ones I have tried so far come at no additional cost. What happens is that some give you access to commercial functions from the creator of the GPT. I will tell you a little more about this later.

Furthermore, while they were previously reserved for ChatGPT Plus users, they can now be used by all users, including those who do not pay for the advanced version of the chatbot. However, when you send some requests to any of the GPTs, the platform will ask you to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus or simply wait until the maximum number of requests is reset.

To use a GPT, you don’t need to acquire any additional knowledge. In fact, all tasks are performed in the same conversational format as ChatGPT. The only difference is that ChatGPT will be better at performing certain tasks and will avoid all those issues that have nothing to do with them . As they say, it won’t beat around the bush.

To view the entire catalog of available GPTs, click the Browse GPT button located in the side panel of ChatGPT on the web. This feature is also available on the mobile and macOS apps.

Once you’ve found the GPT that suits you best, simply tap on it to see its description and then start chatting.

What are the ChatGPT GPT categories currently available?

Currently, GPTs fall into several categories . For example, there are those that specialize in improving productivity, data analysis, or written content creation.

Here is the full list of categories available in the OpenAI GPTs store:

• Writing . There are chatbots designed to humanize AI-created texts, to write ebooks, or to provide creative ideas to the user.
• Productivity . In this section you will find tools to create designs in Canva, manage PDF files or generate a resume.
• Research and analysis . Chatbots trained to answer questions, search data sources or analyze information.
• Education . Here I have come across GPTs designed to teach coding, improve English, or summarize videos from the Internet.
• Lifestyle . This is a section from which you can access GPTs capable of creating role-playing games, songs, travel guides or training routines.
• Programming . Finally, this is a section dedicated to application development, with chatbots specialized in code generation, website development, and more.

Getting started with ChatGPT GPTs step by step

Now you have all the information you need to understand what ChatGPT GPTs are and how they work. At this point, it’s time to learn how you can use them. In addition, I’ll give you some tips on how they work. The first thing you need to do is open the GPT store by clicking on the Explore GPT button . On the website, it’s located on the left sidebar. The best GPTs by user rating or by utility will appear before you.

Currently, the featured GPTs are the ones you see in the image above, although they change over time. There is also a trends section , where you can explore the specialized chatbots that are being used the most. There are even several GPTs created directly by OpenAI.

Once you’ve found the GPT that fits the task you want to perform, click on it. I’m going to try Wix, a website creation service, as it gives me the opportunity to explain a little more about how commercial chatbots work. For now, clicking on it brings up a window with more details and user reviews , as shown in the following image:

Simply click Start Chat to begin working with this custom Wix ChatGPT. In this case, to start the conversation, you can include a brief description of the type of website you need to create.

From there, Wix has been programmed to ask you for more information about your website with a few simple questions. And here’s the trick: once the platform has assimilated the information you’ve provided, ChatGPT will connect with Wix to offer you a custom website . Then, you’ll have to register on the platform and you’ll have access to the company’s portfolio of services.

This is a clear example of how some companies are taking advantage of this opportunity to make money from GPTs. However, not all of them behave this way. In fact, many have been created by users or companies specialised in their respective fields and are not for profit.

For example, with eBook Creator you can create an eBook on any topic you want. You just have to ask it to generate an outline and index.

From there, it is able to write the content of each of the sections that it has proposed. As a user, you can make changes and request that it add specific content. The point is that this is a GPT that has been specialized in this task and is not suitable for any other task.
