Learn how to install config in CS2 to optimize your gameplay experience. Follow our step-by-step guide for a seamless configuration process.
A quick way to understand how your friend or popular eSports player plays Counter-Strike 2 is to set his settings. And if you don’t want to do it manually, you can use the config.
Below we will tell you what the config is, how to use it and what its purpose is.
What is config
Files like .cfg or config are encrypted text documents that store information about the values and parameters of various programs and games. The data recorded there is responsible for the functionality of the utility, its appearance and the scenarios that it activates during certain actions. Usually, configs are created when you first launch the game, and then all changes are recorded.
In the case of Counter-Strike 2, it records all your settings, including graphics data, trigger operation, and other important parameters.
How to create a config
Usually you don’t need to do anything yourself. It’s enough to find the folder with the configs for the game on PC.
Here is her address:
- Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/game/csgo/cfg
If for some reason the folder is missing and you can’t find it even manually, you need to dig into the game settings in Steam. To do this, open Steam and go to the library. Right-click on Counter-Strike 2 and select “Properties” from the drop-down list. After that, follow the path: “Installed files” – “Browse”, and in the next window, select game – csgo – cfg.
Once you are in the folder, you will have to create a text document manually. Write down all the console commands and binds that you use and save it using the “Save As” option. In the file type, click “All files” and write any name in Latin with the file type .cfg. For example, you can write config.cfg or file.cfg.
After that, you will have a ready config file in the folder. You can use it in CS2, but first check if it works at all. You can do this on any training map.
You can change the config and add new settings to it using any text editor. The main thing is not to forget to remember the changes and save them when the game is closed.
How to run config
You can launch your created config or launch someone else’s ready-made one directly in the game. To do this, open the developer console. You can enable it in the settings: in the “Game” tab, enable the “Yes” answer in the “Enable developer console (~)” field.
Press tilde and enter the command exec config.cfg in the console line , where config.cfg is the name of your config. After that, it will be activated, and the game will change the settings.
If you want to set up autorun, go to Steam again. Right-click on Counter-Strike 2 and go to Properties – General. In the Launch Options section, type +exec config.cfg , where config.cfg is the name of the file you need.
How to install someone else’s config
To do this, you first need to download it to your PC. If it is in archive format, unzip it using any convenient program. After that, find the .cfg extension file and move it to the folder at:
- Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive/game/csgo/cfg
Once everything is done, load it into the game in the usual way and check if you are comfortable playing and if everything works correctly.
Now you know what to do with configs in CS2 for their correct operation. Although the developers have worked very well on the convenience of the menu and all the parameters can be configured there. Therefore, the .cfg files themselves are gradually becoming an “outdated” way to set the desired settings.
