Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration message that may prevent you from accessing the Internet. There are a few variations of this error, and speaking of similar problems, these are the most common:

• No Valid IP Settings Windows 10 – This issue can occur due to your antivirus or security settings. However, you should be able to fix the problem by disabling your antivirus.
• WiFi does not have a valid IP configuration Lenovo, HP, Windows 10 Toshiba, ASUS, Surface Pro 4, Dell – This error message can appear on almost any device, and it is usually caused by its drivers. To avoid the problem in the future, make sure to update your drivers to the latest version and check if that solves the problem.
• WiFi does not have a valid configuration unidentified IP network, it does not have Internet access, it does not have Internet security – These are some variations of this error, but you can fix them using the solutions in this article.

What to do if the Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration?

1. Reset TCP / IP

Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration message associated with an IP configuration failure, but you can fix it by resetting your TCP / IP from the command prompt. Follow these steps:

1. Start the command prompt as an administrator. To do so, press Windows Key + X and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
2. When the command prompt opens , enter the following lines:
   • netsh winsock reset
     
   • netsh int ip reset
     
3. Close the command prompt and restart your PC.

Users reported that this solution generally fixes issues with the IP configuration issue, but keep in mind that if you use a static IP address, you will need to configure it again. If the above commands did not work, you may want to try these commands as well:

• ipconfig / release
• ipconfig / flushdns
• ipconfig / renew

2. Change the wireless SSID and password

It was reported that you can fix the Wi-Fi not having a valid IP configuration error by accessing your modem and changing the wireless SSID and password.

3. Set the channel width to Auto

4. Configure your IP address manually

When you connect to a wireless network, you are usually assigned an IP address. DHCP performs this process, but if there is a problem with DHCP or its configuration, you will get an IP configuration error.

One solution suggested by users is to assign an IP address for your device manually. How to configure the IP address?

1. Press Windows Key + X and choose Network Connections.
2. Right-click on your wireless network and choose Properties from the menu.
3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) and click the Properties button .
4. When the Properties window opens , select the Use the following IP address option and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway . We use settings that work for our setup, but you may need to enter different data. Also, you will need to enter the DNS server manually. In our example we use Google’s public DNS, but you can also use 192.168.1.1 as your preferred DNS server .
5. Once you’re done, click the OK button .

Alternatively, you can access your router and disable DHCP and configure it to assign a static IP address to your PC.

5. Change the number of DHCP users

According to some users, you can solve this problem by increasing the number of DHCP users. Some routers are generally limited to 50 DHCP users, and this can cause an IP configuration failure message to appear.

To fix this problem, you need to access your router and increase the number of DHCP users manually.

Users reported that after increasing the number of DHCP users, all issues were resolved. To see how to increase the number of DHCP users on your router, be sure to check your manual.

In addition, some users also suggest that you can fix the problem with IP settings by increasing the maximum number of wireless users.

Some routers are limited to only 10 wireless users, and increasing the maximum number of users solved the problem.

6. Perform a clean boot

Some users claim that it can fix Clean Boot IP Configuration Failure error. By using clean boot, you will disable all third-party apps and services that may be interfering with your wireless connection.

To perform a clean boot, do the following:

1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard and enter msconfig. Press Enter or right – click on OK.
2. When the Windows Settings window opens , select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items .
3. Go to the Services tab , check Hide all Microsoft services and click the Disable all button .
4. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager .
5. When Task Manager opens , you will see a list of startup applications. Right-click on each item in the list and choose Disable.
   
6. After disabling all startup applications, close the Task Manager and click Apply and OK in the Windows Settings window .
7. Restart your computer.

After restarting your computer, check if the problem is resolved. If the problem doesn’t appear, you might want to enable the disabled apps and services and find the one that’s causing this problem so you can remove or update it.

7. Remove your antivirus software

Antivirus software or firewall can often interfere with your Internet connection and cause IP settings to fail. As a workaround, you may want to temporarily remove your antivirus or firewall.

Users reported that Avast and AVG antivirus can cause this problem, and after removing the problem software, the problem was resolved.

Keep in mind that almost any antivirus software can cause this problem, so be sure to temporarily remove all third-party antivirus tools.

8. Make sure DHCP is enabled

As we mentioned earlier, DHCP takes care of assigning IP addresses to devices that connect to your network, and if DHCP is not WiFi enabled, you may encounter this error.

To make sure DHCP is enabled, you can always troubleshoot your network connection by doing the following:

1. Open the network connection s.
2. Locate your network adapter, right-click and choose Diagnose.
3. Wait for the scan to finish.

You can also configure your IP address to be obtained automatically to enable DHCP. This process is similar to the one described in Solution 4 , so be sure to check that solution.

Lastly, you can always enable DHCP from your router settings in case you have disabled it earlier.

9. Uninstall the driver for your wireless adapter

Users claim that they managed to fix this problem by uninstalling their wireless adapter driver. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Press Windows Key + X and choose Device Manager .
2. When Device Manager opens , locate your wireless device, right-click, and choose Uninstall.
   
3. If available, select Delete driver software for this device and then click on OK.
4. After removing the driver, restart your PC.

When your PC restarts, Windows 10 will automatically install the default wireless driver. If the default driver works fine, you can continue to use it, but if there is a problem, you may need to download the latest driver and install it.

Please note that updating your drivers is an advanced procedure. If you’re not careful, you can cause permanent damage to your system by downloading the wrong version of the driver, so be very careful.

10. Make sure the security type matches

Sometimes IP configuration failure can be caused by your security type, so make sure the security type on your PC matches the security type set by your router.

To do so, simply open your router’s settings page, visit the wireless section, and check what type of security is being used. After that, make sure your wireless adapter is using the same type of security.
