All this with a more than attractive design inspired by the Zephyrus series adjusted measurements and weight, as well as a screen for games with FHD resolution and 144 Hz . Logically everything could not be perfect, and there are cuts like a PCIe 3.0 SSD instead of Gen4, aluminum only on the lid or a screen with very limited color coverage. We have it recommended in our guide, let’s see if it really deserves it!

We thank Asus for their trust in us by sending us this laptop for review.

Unboxing

The packaging of the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 is presented in a discreet rigid cardboard box with a neutral finish , in which the TUF inscription is found along with a sticker with the product specifications and another for identification. After opening its case-type cover, we find the laptop on a cardboard mold that separates it from the accessories, which in turn is placed in a fiber bag .

The contents of the box will be as follows:

  • Asus TUF Dash F15 2022Laptop
  • 200W charging adapter with European plug
  • Support and warranty documentation

Minimalist and elegant design

At first glance, the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 does not seem like a “cheap” laptop for its specifications, quite the opposite. And the key to this will be the design based on the lines of the Zephyrus series that has given the brand so much success, together with an elegant matte black color, although with a slight shine. All this with fairly tight measurements for its 15.6” format, 20 mm thick and a weight of just 2 kg . The chassis is MIL-STD-810H military certified.

Although it is true that when we stop to see the construction details we will see that there are obvious cuts to adjust the price. One of them is that only the screen cover uses aluminum , being at least of excellent finish with the subtly serigraphed logo and acceptable rigidity . The smooth minimalist style with rounded corners gives way to a lower recess with Zephyrus-style diagonal cuts. Above the keyboard area, the indicator LED panel is visible , 4 of them organized in a very original “X” shape. The symmetry is perfect, because everything feels organic and well integrated.

We move on to the edge areas where we see a straight front with the typical inward cuts to sharpen the body of the laptop and provide a greater sense of thinness. But these edges are not completely flat, but have a certain wavy or scratched at the base of the keyboard where dirt will get in relatively easily. A notable change compared to the TUF 2021 is that it has a webcam on the screen , using an accent that stands out from the frame that gives personality and allows the screen to be opened comfortably.

We go to the rear area of the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 where we see the hinge system consisting of two fastening points in the corners , with a backward opening if the screen frame touches the ground. Its opening range will be about 135º , with soft and progressive performance of medium hardness. The central area is fully used by placing ventilation grilles to expel hot air from the heatsink, in combination with the two side grilles.

We have a fairly robust plastic cover for the base that covers part of the side areas, so it will be difficult to remove. It has a peculiar Teflon textured finish that leaves a relief for better grip. The central part has a non- slip rubber feet frame and multiple vents for air circulation. The two speaker outputs remain in the front corners facing the ground as usual.

We then open the laptop to see again a plastic base where a keyboard with a numeric panel and a large touchpad are placed , taking advantage of all the available space. All the excess upper margin has been used to include several special hotkeys , an extra ventilation grille and the power button, although this time without a fingerprint reader. The screen frames will be 5 mm on the sides, 8 mm on the upper edge without counting the widening of the webcam (12 mm) and 35 mm on the lower edge.

Ports and connectivity

The connectivity of the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 remains practically unchanged compared to the previous generation, changing only one USB-A for another USB-C. The ports are located on both sides of the equipment.

On the right side we have:

  • Kensington Palace
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A

While in the left zone we will see:

  • Jack DC-In
  • RJ-45 Ethernet
  • HDMI 2.0b
  • USB-C Thunderbolt 4
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C con DisplayPort 1.4 y Power Delivery 3.0
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A
  • 5mm combo jack for audio and microphone

There is a large concentration of ports on the left side, but in none of them do we see an SD or Micro SD card reader , which we already asked for in the previous generation. The Thunderbolt 4 port at 40 Gbps with charging and video capacity has been maintained , although one of the USB-A ports becomes USB-C Gen2 at 10 Gbps instead of 5 Gbps and with a charging capacity of up to 100W.

Network connectivity improves minimally by changing the wireless card to an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 , but why not install the Wi-Fi 6E version already? The improvement is insufficient. We have a wired interface controlled by a 1 Gbps Intel I219-V chip .

Screen with a pure gaming focus

This new generation of Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 seems to equip a single screen model like this 15.6-inch IPS LCD , model N156HME-GAK from Innolux . It offers a native FHD resolution of 1920x1080p with 144 Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync , balanced for use with both the Nvidia RTX 3060 Laptop and RTX 3050 ti cards, two cards that would not take advantage of the potential of possible 2K models.

Its basic features consist of 1000:1 typical contrast , 250 nits typical brightness without HDR capability, 9 ms response time, and 45% NTSC color coverage, resulting in 62.5% sRGB. Features that we can consider basic at this point in the game, especially in coverage, although obviously the intention is to cut some aspects to adjust the price.

The visual quality is correct in terms of contrast , although it is noted that the color reproduction lacks saturation and vividness in the most saturated tones. Viewing angles won’t be as optimized as on higher FHD models, losing a bit of brightness and contrast especially at side angles.

ghosting test

To detect the presence of ghosting and blurring in this main panel, we have carried out the corresponding ghosting test available in Testufo , making captures following the speed of the moving elements.

The 144 Hz of this panel offers a good behavior in terms of sharpness of the moving image without reaching the high-end models, although the slower response time makes a dent in the ghosting when seeing a certain black trail behind the UFOs in the simulation.

panel calibration

We have performed the calibration tests for the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 panel with the X-Rite Colormunki Display colorimeter , and the free DisplayCAL 3 and HCFR programs .

Brightness and Contrast

Max Brightness Contrast Valor Gamma color temperature black level
271 cd/m2 1574:1 2,42 6562K 0,1722 cd/m2

The panel performs well when it comes to basic specifications, far exceeding the typical 250 nits and reaching a contrast ratio of 1500:1 . Even the color temperature will be well adjusted, so its limitations are not precisely in these features.

sRGB and DCI-P3 spaces

As was already seen in the color coverage, it is confirmed that this panel will have its weak point in color representation, obtaining an average Delta E of 4.35, only with good measurements in the gray scale. The 63% coverage and gamut volume of the same value will limit your ability to improve color accuracy with a calibration, there is really no point.

In DCI-P3 the average Delta E worsens to 5.39 again with quite a bit of inaccuracy in saturated color tones and coverage drops to 44.8%. At least the Gamma, Luminance and Black and White straight lines will be maintained with very good precision, so the panel is practically at its best.

Audio system and webcam

This Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 laptop equips an audio system made up of two 2W rectangular speakers , which are located in the front corners facing downwards. It is compatible with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio , promising great detail in the variety of frequencies that they reproduce.

We confirm that this is so, because both in high and medium tones these speakers are at a high level , being able to reproduce all the nuances in that range with great detail. Of course, on the other hand, they will have low bass power , and the frequencies begin to have a presence from 90 Hz. Even so, the system is superior in quality to other 2-speaker configurations that we have tested, for example those from Lenovo. or Acer Nitro that are its direct rivals, and even some high-end equipment from the competition.

We have a webcam, which is already an advance compared to the TUF Dash of the previous generation, mounting in this case a 720p sensor recorded at 30 FPS showing sufficient image quality for its capacity. It is accompanied by a 2-microphone array with far- range capture and active noise cancellation through Armory Crate software, just like the high-end models. There is no IR camera for facial recognition or fingerprint reader, although there is a TPM for Windows 11.

keyboard and touchpad

Asus has changed the keyboard configuration of this Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 model to once again include a numeric panel and turn it into a full format keyboard . For this, it has maintained the ANSI distribution in perfect Spanish, taking full advantage of the width of the equipment without changing the size and separation of the keys. Similarly, the panel of special keys remains at the top to access Armory Crate, adjust volume and mute the microphone.

The key format will be island type, with an area of 15×15 mm and rounded edges. The typography is thick and clear , with LED backlighting in white instead of blue, with two levels of intensity, but it is not RGB. It has a very quiet 1.7 mm displacement chiclet-type membrane , with excellent handling sensations as it has a slightly padded end of travel and powerful rebound. There is no depression in the central part, so it will be very comfortable for typing and gaming , highlighting the WASD panel with white color.

Like the keyboard, the touchpad also grows in size to take full advantage of the available area, measuring 130mm wide by 78mm deep with less rounded corners than last year’s F15 model. It has an excellent gliding, matte color trackpad that leaves plenty of fingerprints, enlivened with the TUF logo in the upper right corner. The installation is perfect and without slack , with integrated main buttons with minimum travel and a soft click with little actuation force.

Software the control

Armory Crate will be the software in charge of managing the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 in different aspects such as performance profiles, keyboard lighting, noise cancellation system, screen image profiles with GameVisual and access to the support section among other details. It should be noted that this screen does not support Overdrive , so the option is not available.

Undoubtedly the most important section will be the one related to performance control , with 4 predefined profiles and another customizable one where we can raise the CPU Boost by means of PL1 and PL2 steps, as well as the GPU Boost up to +200 MHz in the GPU Clock, + 300 MHz in the VRAM Clock, TDP and maximum temperature . This mode was not in the previous generation, so it gives us room for performance improvement. It even features Nvidia Optimus with MUX Switch to intelligently switch between dGPU and iGPU in battery mode.

Internal and hardware features

The hardware access cover is complicated to remove as it is robust and has part of the sides covered with it. If we add to this some slightly weak claws, we must exercise extreme caution when opening it to update components, but at least the screw in the lower right corner will already lift the lid a little to start the extraction.

Starting with the CPU, we have a 12th generation Intel Core i7-12650H with Alder Lake architecture, being the least powerful i7 model on the list. However, it equips no less than 10 cores divided into 6 P-core at 4.7 GHz and 4 E-core at 3.5 GHz with a base TPD of 45W expandable to 115W in turbo mode as well as 24 MB of L3 cache . It is compatible with DDR5, and equips 12th generation Intel UHD integrated graphics with 64 execution units and 1.4 GHz.

It is accompanied by an Nvidia RTX 3060 Laptop graphics card , configured at a conservative 105W TDP whose boost frequency is 1402 MHz with manual boost of 200 MHz . Inside we have 30 computing units that will add 3840 CUDA Core, 120 3rd generation Tensor Core and 30 2nd generation RT Core. It is completed with a configuration of 6 GB GDDR6 of dedicated VRAM memory , working at a clock frequency of 1500 MHz (12 Gbps effective) with manual boost of 300 MHz. Its bus width will be 192 bits and the bandwidth of 288 bits. GB / s, although if it reaches 1750 MHz it would reach 336 GB / s.

We continue with the RAM memory configuration , opting for DDR5 technology in the form of two 8 GB modules at 4800 MHz each for a total of 16 GB Dual Channel. We think that in this case it would have made sense to keep DDR4, since we found that the storage consists of 512 GB with Intel Gen3x4 SSDs instead of being Gen4x4. Asus has weighed the DDR5 performance against a Gen4 SSD and the RAM has won, it makes sense for gaming, although they raise the price of the laptop and a possible update by the user. We have a second M.2 slot to expand the capacity.

In the available configurations listed by the brand, we will have options with Nvidia RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti, the same RAM and CPU, as well as a 512 or 1 TB SSD , in any case PCIe 3.0. There are also models with AMD Ryzen 7 6800H and Nvidia RTX 3070.

The heatsink of this Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 consists of two Arc Flow turbine-type fans with 84 blades and a 13% improvement in airflow, along with 5 copper heat pipes . In a combination of separate GPU and CPU cold plates , they will carry the heat to the 4 blocks located in the exhaust grilles, using gray thermal paste (based on metals). The GPU cold plate also cools the GDDR6 memories, just as another plate is responsible for cooling the power phases of the plate. Both the memories and the SSD have thermal plates to reduce their temperatures, although this time the DDR5 do not have metallic insulation.

Autonomy

As for the battery equipped in the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022, we have the same specification as the previous generation, based on Lithium Polymer with 4920 mAh and 76 W, although it loses 20 mAh compared to the previous model.

In the most favorable scenario , it has given us almost 8 hours of autonomy , that is, with brightness at 40%, browsing and doing basic tasks with Wi-Fi activated. It is therefore lowering its figure compared to the model with Intel Core i7-11370H as it is a less demanding CPU thermally and energetically speaking.

Test of performance

We went to see this Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 in action with the performance tests that we usually carry out. These have been carried out with the equipment plugged into the mains.

Benchmarks

We then perform the following synthetic tests for CPU, GPU, RAM and SSD:

  • Cinebench R15, R20 y R23
  • PCMark 8 and 10
  • 3Dmark Time Spy, Fire Strike, Fire Strike Ultra y Port Royal
  • VRMark Orange Room
  • CrystalDiskMark
  • Aida64

gaming performance

We went on to see the performance of the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 by testing high-demand games, some of them with ray tracing, in FHD.

  • Shadow of the Tomb Rider, Alto, DirectX 12 / Ray Tracing + DLSS Equilibrado
  • Far Cry 5,Alto, DirectX 12
  • DOOM Eternal, Ultra, Vulkan
  • Final Fantasy XV, standard, DirectX 12
  • Deus EX Mankind Divided, Alto, DirectX 11
  • Metro Exodus, Alto, DirectX 12 / Ray Tracing + DLSS
  • Control, Alto, Ray Tracing, DirectX 12
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Alto, Ray Tracing + DLSS, DirectX 12
  • Cyberpunk 2077,Ultra, Ray Tracing + DLSS Performance, DirectX 12
  • Wolfenstein Youngblood, DirectX 12, Ray Tracing + DLSS Equilibrado

The performance with this configuration is excellent compared to other models, and since we have the manual boost mode we have taken advantage of it to get the most out of its possibilities without compromising stability. The laptop has supported 300 MHz of memory clock, although the GPU clock has reached 150 MHz in a stable way .

temperatures

The stress process to which the  Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 has been subjected has lasted around 60 minutes. It has been done with  Prime95 and FurMark , and temperature capture with  HWiNFO with the Turbo performance profile.

Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 Repose Maximum performance Pico
CPU Intel Core i7-12650H 45oC 89 o C 96 o C
GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Laptop 46 of C 77 o C 78 o C

During the test , thermal throttling has occurred only at the beginning of the stress process until the fans have acquired the appropriate rpm regime. After the first moments the temperature stabilizes at around 86-91ºC , so the maximum of 100ºC of the previous Intel Comet Lake is not reached.

They are high temperatures, but they allow you to extract all the performance of the hardware and even a little more with manual boost. The heating of the keyboard surface is controlled enough not to bother while typing or playing, although the edge above it receives more heat due to the grill.

Final words and conclusion about the Asus TUF Dash F15 2022

The new generation of TUF Dash laptops leaves us with improvements in the main hardware by adopting Intel Alder Lake processors and DDR5 memories that give better performance in games and multitasking. Perhaps this is the most positive part at the hardware level, because Armory Crate also allows you to manually raise the boost to squeeze the performance of the CPU and GPU, thanks in part to a good heatsink with high but stable average temperatures .

However, the high price of DDR5 and inflation mean that entry-level storage is maintained with low-performance Gen3x4 Intel SSDs . The screen is another element that lowers its quality from 240Hz in the previous generation to 144 Hz with a panel that can be improved in color range, although with good contrast and brightness. For its part, the battery does not improve either , and even loses 20 mAh, but it remains in good consumption figures for these CPUs.

We recommend reading our guide to the best laptops on the market

Quite positive aspects of this new model is the high quality of the peripherals , on the one hand the touchpad improving its amplitude and maintaining perfect installation, and on the other the padded membrane keyboard, silent and comfortable , although we would have left it in TKL format. The sound section is maintained in 2 speakers, surpassing in quality its direct rivals in equalization and frequency detail, but there is still a lack of bass depth. Not only a webcam is included , but also microphones with software ANC, one more extra that can be useful in online games.

In the aesthetic section , it is perhaps the most beautiful gaming laptop in its price range, with an elegant color and minimalist lines inspired by the Zephyrus series. It keeps the light only on the screen cover , while the rest is made of plastic. Connectivity improves slightly by adopting a second USB-C Gen2 with 100W PD , in addition to Thunderbolt 4 , unusual in a model of this type.

This Asus TUF Dash F15 2022 will be available for a price of €1,099 in the RTX 3060 version and €949 for the one equipped with Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti. For us, it is still one of the most recommended cheap gaming equipment, although there are cuts such as the screen or non-evolutions such as the SSD that we would improve by opting for DDR4 memory to maintain the price . It has variants equipped with Ryzen 6800H and Nvidia RTX 3070, so more to choose from.

ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGES
