New Day Healthcare announced on Thursday that Kathy Poland, who has been serving as interim CEO, will lead the company as CEO.
Poland took the interim CEO position in March, following the death of its founder and previous CEO G. Scott Herman.
“Scott built New Day on a foundation of honor, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to patients and families,” Poland said in a statement. “I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me to lead this organization. Our leadership team has worked together for many years, and we remain committed to supporting our employees, serving our patients with excellence, and building upon the vision Scott established. The future of New Day is incredibly bright, and we are just getting started.”
Founded in 2020, New Day offers home health, hospice, pediatric care, personal home care and clinical decision support. The company operates across Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, New Mexico and Indiana, serving nearly 180,000 patients annually. The company employs approximately 10,000 team members.
The company’s new top executive formerly served as New Day’s chief operating officer. Poland has also served as COO and senior vice president of operations of Elara Caring.
“Since New Day was founded, Kathy has been instrumental in shaping the culture, operational excellence and patient-centered approach that define our organization,” Kenneth Hammond, board member at New Day, said. “Over the past several months, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, bringing stability, clarity and focus during a challenging period. We are confident that Kathy is the right leader to guide New Day into its next chapter.”
The transition to the CEO role reflects the New Day board of directors’ confidence in Poland’s leadership, industry expertise, and commitment to New Day’s mission and culture, according to the company’s announcement.
Since its founding, New Day has completed 16 acquisitions, but is currently in a phase of “settling down,” in terms of expanding into new states, Matt Griffith, the company’s chief strategy officer, previously said at a Home Health Care News event.
