The new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Erica Schwartz, has stepped down as a board member of the home health and hospice provider Aveanna Healthcare Holdings (Nasdaq: AVAH).

Schwartz notified Aveanna on Wednesday that she had decided to resign from its board of directors in connection with her nomination and confirmation as CDC director, according to SEC documents.  

Before her resignation, Schwartz served as an independent director to Aveanna as the chair of its clinical quality committee. She held the position since 2021, according to SEC documents.

Atlanta-based Aveanna provides pediatric and adult in-home care services in 39 states.

The Senate confirmed Schwartz as the CDC director on Wednesday in a 51-to-44 vote, according to AP News.

Schwartz disclosed her role with Aveanna and her departure plan in her ethics agreement and financial disclosures. 

“Upon confirmation, I will resign from all of my positions with Aveanna Healthcare Holdings, Inc,” the disclosure document read. “Pursuant to my agreement with the company, I am paid annually in May, my total fees for services. On May 28, 2026, I received my annual fees for services to be provided during the period of June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027.”

Schwartz also disclosed that she holds stock and unvested restricted stock units in Aveanna, and that the company agreed to accelerate the vesting of her unvested restricted stock units or that she would forfeit them.

The new CDC director also resigned from her role as the president of insurance solutions at United Healthcare, the services arm of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH).

Schwartz previously served as the deputy surgeon general for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from March 2019 to April 2021.
