Top 20 Sims 4 Mods

The Sims 4 offers many opportunities for players, but modders offer even more. This article highlights the best mods that will diversify gameplay and add new content.

Sims 4 Mods

Scholarships and balanced tuition fees

Sims 4 Tutorial

If your university is putting too much strain on your budget, the new system will help make tuition and scholarships more affordable, as costs will depend on your chosen specialty.

The scholarship amount is calculated for a three-week course and the gameplay style assumed by the author. In this system, Sims can apply for several types of support: a city scholarship, social assistance, and specialized payments for athletes, techies, and other students.

New part-time jobs

Looking for a part-time job

Short on cash for everyday expenses, but lacking the necessary skills for a full-time job? This mod includes 20 part-time jobs that don’t require any specific skill level. However, the lack of skill requirements doesn’t guarantee success, as a particularly unlucky Sim might still fail.

Musical night light for babies

Musical night light for children

A functional nursery item that combines a music player and a nightlight. Designed for newborns, infants, and toddlers, it offers 15 user-defined audio tracks divided into several categories. Adults can choose the appropriate sound type depending on the situation.

The library includes lullabies, nature sounds, recordings simulating the rhythms of the fetal environment familiar to babies, heartbeats, and various soft background noises. Lullabies are available in five melodies. Children may respond differently to the same recording.

Routine after sleep

Brushing teeth in the morning

If your Sim turns on the TV first thing after waking up, starts chatting with the neighbors, or suddenly decides to paint a picture even though they urgently need to pee, this mod will help streamline their morning routine. It automatically prioritizes basic needs.

Upon awakening from sleep, the utility prompts the player to first perform a bowel movement, then perform personal hygiene, brush their teeth, and only then eat. An exception is made for the critical need to go to the toilet. Hunger is only taken into account when the character is actually hungry.

Eye care

Glasses in The Sims 4

The downloaded content will bring a full-fledged vision care system to The Sims 4: characters can experience various eye conditions, use glasses and contact lenses, visit an ophthalmologist, and have their vision corrected.

After visiting the ophthalmologist, you can choose a random frame or a specific pair using the special selector. If your Sim already wears glasses, you can replace the lenses, converting them to prescription ones. The same applies to contact lenses.

Everyday behavior has also become more logical: while sleeping, taking a bath, or swimming, the Sim automatically removes glasses or contacts.

Musical group

Musical group in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 never added the ability to form a band, which is still a source of frustration for many fans of the series. But this mod makes that little gaming dream a reality. It allows Sims to simultaneously play instruments and perform together in a specific style.

To create a band, you’ll need a guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and drums. Each instrument can only be used once per band. After placing the instruments on the lot, select “Band” and then the desired style. However, if the band leader leaves, the concert will end immediately.

GPS map

GPS Map in Sims 4

If the standard travel system seems long and tedious, this improvement significantly reduces unnecessary steps. Instead of opening the phone and navigating to the desired location, your Sim now has a dedicated GPS map stored directly in your inventory.

To set up, click on the character and select the GPS menu, then activate “Enable Easy Travel.” After doing so, an item with a red car icon will appear in your inventory. Use it to access all available areas of the map.

Hairstyle control

SIM card

While a random NPC hairstyle can ruin an entire look, this modification allows you to take control of the world’s inhabitants’ appearance. It includes a dedicated menu that allows you to change the hairstyle and hair color of any character.

The main feature is the automatic NPC control system. It runs in the background and is enabled by default: whenever a character appears in the game with a hairstyle that isn’t on your whitelist, the utility automatically replaces it with an approved option.

Before using the mod for the first time, you’ll need to create a basic configuration. After installation, launch the game, click on any Sim, and select “Hair Control” → “Create Hair Configuration.” The mod will scan available hairstyles and create a whitelist. This only needs to be done once. If you later add new expansions or custom content, the list can be updated via the console with the dsn_build_hair_list command . For more precise control, a blacklist is also available.

Shower gels

Functional gel

Even in The Sims, you sometimes want to add a little realism to everyday details, and installing this mod allows you to do just that. The game now features four shower gel options to combat unpleasant body odor and sweat.

You can find the gel in Build Mode under “Decorations → Miscellaneous.” After purchasing, place the chosen gel in your character’s inventory and send them to take a shower.

Relaxing on the bed

Lazybones

A small but atmospheric addition to everyday life. The modification creates a new interaction called “Rest on Bed,” and the animation isn’t always the same: the game randomly selects one of two options. Before doing so, the characters take off their shoes before lying down on the bed.

Depending on the Sim’s current mood, one of four moodlets may also have a small chance of appearing while resting.

Online University

SimAcademy

This is a fully-fledged online university designed for Sims who want to choose their own pace of study and balance education with work, family, or other commitments. A total of 13 accredited higher education programs are available. In addition, SimAcademy offers online skill development classes and a separate program for Sims who dropped out of high school. This program allows you to earn a diploma by taking an online exam.

No push-ups

Annoying push-ups

If your Sims are constantly doing push-ups, squats, and exercise for no apparent reason, this mod will finally help you take control of the situation by disabling all autonomous actions in the Exercise menu. After this, all exercises are performed only when directed by the player.

Disabling auto-invites

Uninvited guests

Sometimes, just a few words with a neighbor outside your house is enough for them to suddenly think they’ve officially gotten in. A minute ago, the character was standing on the sidewalk, and now they’re sitting in front of your TV, eating from the fridge, and it seems they’re planning to spend the next four hours there. And you didn’t even invite them anywhere. This mod fixes this strange behavior and returns control over access to the house to the player.

No talking in the toilet

Relieving oneself in The Sims

Your Sim has finished their business in the restroom, but for some reason they’re in no hurry to leave. A few seconds later, another Sim pops in for a chat, then someone else joins in. Luckily, the mod forces Sims to leave the restroom after using it.

After completing the required actions, the character will be automatically directed to another location on the lot. If another character goes to the bathroom specifically to talk to someone, the interaction will be canceled.

Waterproof TVs

Open-air cinema

This modification is vital for open-air cinemas. The problem arises at the most inopportune moment: you arrive at the site after a rainstorm, expecting a cozy evening with a movie and popcorn, only to find the TV broken due to the rain.

This mod makes TVs from the “Little Tourists” and “Home Theater” packages waterproof. However, keep in mind that it changes the settings of the devices in these two packages, so it will conflict with other utilities that also change their settings.

No cleaning of dishes

Bun at Starbucks

In the default game, Sims in an active household will independently search community lots for dirty dishes to wash or throw away. After installing the mod, Sims will no longer do this.

A smart career as a writer

Reading a book

If your Sim is a writer, it’s only natural to expect books to take up a little more space in their life than endless TV watching or internet scrolling. This mod adds just that habit to writers.

Beauty industry

Fashionistas in The Sims 4

The foundation is the “Cosmetologist” track, which offers several career paths. In hairdressing, you can progress from student cosmetologist to senior stylist. New positions are also available in the spa and wellness field.

In the hair care and beauty industry, a character can start by founding a cosmetics brand and gradually gain popularity. The education branch allows one to progress from a teacher and beauty instructor to the owner of a beauty school.

A separate career path focuses on the digital industry and beauty apps. Here, Sims can develop beauty apps. In the media sector, careers such as beauty bloggers are available. The ultimate goal of the entire career path is to become a true beauty industry icon.

Genetics

Mother and daughter

You’ve probably noticed NPC families where the children look like they’re not related to their parents at all. Meanwhile, The Sims 4’s genetic system is quite adept at blending parents’ physical traits and passing them on to their children. This mod simply forces the game to utilize this system where it would normally ignore it.

Death by smoke

Death by smoke

This mod makes fires in the game much more dangerous and realistic, as smoke, not just fire, will now pose a hazard. Once a fire starts, a hidden 45-minute timer starts. If a Sim is still inside the building when it expires, they die.

The author offers two versions of the mod. EA Deaths retains the usual rules: pregnant women, newborns, infants, toddlers, and pets cannot die from this mechanic. Realistic Deaths makes no exceptions at all.
