Genshin Impact Dark Onslaught 7.0: Bosses, Troops, and Rewards Guide

Snezhnaya isn’t just rich in memes and Easter eggs, it’s also rich in generous rewards. The “Grim Onslaught” mode is ready to reward your account with a ton of Primogems if you can defeat powerful bosses. As usual, there are several difficulty levels to choose from, varying in both enemy stats and rewards. Today, I’ll tell you about the bosses, examine each ability, and show you which squads are best for defeating them.

Disclaimer

It’s likely that some of the squads I’ve suggested will seem too expensive. I’ll try to include budget options, but unfortunately, bosses in Genshin Impact are designed less for interesting mechanics than for the sake of advertising new heroes. Besides, Grim Onslaught is still considered endgame content in Genshin Impact.

If you happen to lack Kirill on your account to defeat Iron Duckling, replace him with your best damage dealer capable of activating the “Charged” reaction. If none are available, take your most highly-leveled character and try to complete the battle with a squad tailored to him. This doesn’t always work, but these are the only alternatives to the current heroes.

Winged Lion Chimera

Winged Lion Chimera

The first and only new boss in Onslaught, dedicated to Snezhnaya. And surprisingly, it’s a fairly forgiving opponent. To defeat the chimera, you don’t need to knock out Odette or level up Sandrone. Sure, they make the fight easier, but to complete it, you just need a good Cryo damage dealer.

The core mechanic revolves around two powerful abilities: “Thunderclap” and “Wind Master.” The former provides a strong Electro Shield, while the latter creates Anemo orbs.

Boss abilities

The voice of thunder

Fight with the Chimera

Chimera uses this ability before combat and after successfully interrupting “Wind Lord.” The attack is complex and consists of several stages:

  • The boss casts an Electric Shield on himself, blocking damage of the corresponding type.
  • The enemy thrusts their blade into the ground, dealing Electro damage in an area.
  • Chimera breathes out an Anemo pulse, periodically dealing high Electro damage.
  • If the player successfully uses the Starlight mechanic, the skill will be interrupted.

Once the player destroys the shield, the Chimera falls to the ground, is stunned and takes a lot of

Fight with the Chimera

Chimera uses this ability after successfully removing the Voice of Thunder shield. The attack is complex and consists of several stages:

  • The boss takes off and circles above the arena, firing Anemo projectiles at the player.
  • The enemy drops to the ground, creates Anemo spheres and begins to attract them to himself.
  • To destroy the spheres, the player must attack them with Pyro, Cryo, Electro, or Hydro elements.

If the player successfully destroys all the spheres, the boss will be stunned. Otherwise, the Chimera will repeat “Wind Lord” again.

How to win?

As I mentioned above, the boss is surprisingly easy. Yes, teams with Star Reactions will fare better, as they have some synergy with the “Voice of Thunder” ability. But compared to the bosses from Nod’s End, where a lot of it came down to “Lunar Reactions or Ban,” Chimera looks and feels like a piece of cake.

Units for the battle with the Winged Lion Chimera

The obvious choice is Sandrone, Odette, or both. But if you don’t have them on your account, don’t worry. There are still plenty of damage dealers in the game capable of defeating Chimera. In terms of shield penetration, Cryo, Pyro, and Dendro perform best.

  • Sandrone + Odette + Yae Miko + Qi Qi
  • Skirk + Furina + Escoffier + Xing Qiu
  • Nefer + Lauma + Columbine + Xing Qiu
  • Mavuika + Citlali + Shilonen + Bennett

Achievements for defeating the Winged Lion Chimera

There are two achievements you can get for defeating the boss:

  • Swift Lion’s Fall – Destroy all Anemo Spheres while the boss is in the Wind Lord state.
  • “Living Breath” – Defeat the boss in co-op mode.

Wind Operative

Wind Operative

Oddly enough, the second boss of “Grim Onslaught” 7.0 is the easiest of them all. Furthermore, it’s completely unrelated to the current content, coming straight from Fontaine. Yes, you won’t need Star and Moon Reactions, thanks to HoYo for the Harlequin banner.

Boss abilities

Dirty Trick

Fight with the Operative

Cocks a musket and begins firing Anemo projectiles at the player, dealing damage on impact. If the player gets too close, the Operator will immediately use “Fake Maneuver.”

Deceptive maneuver

Fight with the Operative

When taking damage from a player, the boss jumps up and then crashes to the ground, dealing damage in an area.

Elimination of the target

Fight with the Operative

After a short delay, creates an explosion in the area, dealing damage to the player. This ability can be repeated multiple times in a row.

Bullying

Fight with the Operative

Applies Life Debt to all players and deals minor damage to itself. Each time the boss hits a character affected by Life Debt with an attack, it restores its own health. Life Debt blocks incoming healing and deals periodic damage to the active character until they have sufficient health.

How to win?

Among all the bosses in Dark Onslaught 7.0, the Operator stands out due to his increased resistance to a certain element: enemies take 50% less Anemo damage. Otherwise, the boss is fairly linear and straightforward. All you need to do is dodge attacks and deal damage as quickly as possible.

Keep in mind that on higher difficulties, the fight with the Operative changes significantly, as she gains a new ability: “Duel.” When used, the boss applies a strong shield to herself and refreshes Life Debt on all characters in the party every second until the shield is destroyed. When this happens, the Operative takes significant damage.

Squads for fighting the Wind Operative

Since the boss is tied to the Life Debt mechanic, a team with Arlequin or Clorinda will be significantly more effective than any other:

  • Clorinda + Xing Qiu + Bai Zhu + Nahida
  • Arlecchino + Shilonen + Zhong Li + Bennett
  • Mavuika + Citlali + Shilonen + Bennett
  • Skirk + Furina + Escoffier + Shen He

Achievements for defeating the Wind Operator

  • “Deianeira Snezhnevna” – Defeat Local Legend: Deianeira Snezhnevna

Iron Duckling

Fight with the Iron Duck

The final boss targets squads with his “Charged” and “Moon Charge” reactions. The Duckling has simple and straightforward abilities that nonetheless deal a lot of damage. Naturally, in Onslaught 7.0, he’s working on Kirill and Ineffa’s upcoming banner.

At some point, the robot enters the “Quack-Quack Crusher” state, summoning numerous Duckbots and shielding itself. To remove the shield, destroy all the Duckbots using the “Charged” and “Moon Charge” reactions.

Boss abilities

Whack-a-mole

Fight with the Iron Duck

Slams his hammer forward, dealing damage. If the player gets behind the boss, the boss performs a spin attack.

Fight with the Iron Duck

Takes a few awkward steps towards the player, then slams his saw into the ground, dealing damage.

Special delivery

Fight with the Iron Duck

Leaps into the air and slams down on the player’s current position, dealing damage over a large area.

The duckling wants to play!

Fight with the Iron Duck

Performs a roundhouse kick.

There you are!

Uses this ability only in Quack Quack Crusher mode. He quickly turns toward the player and deals damage in front of him.

Combo breaker

Fight with the Iron Duck

Uses this ability only in Quack Quack Crusher mode. Moves in a straight line toward the player, rapidly attacking with his boxing gloves.

Iron Nanny

Fight with the Iron Duck

Uses this ability only in “Quack Quack Crusher” mode. Moves in a straight line toward the player, spinning rapidly and dealing damage. If it catches a character or touches the edge of the arena, it immediately casts “Special Delivery.”

Quack-Quack Crusher Mode

Fight with the Iron Duck

Casts “Special Delivery,” then shields itself and summons five Platybots. Each Platybot has an energy bar that fills when damaged by the “Charged” and “Moon Charge” reactions. Once the bar is full, the Platybot stops attacking the player, disengages, and slams into the boss, dealing heavy damage.

If the player manages to destroy the shield, the Iron Duck will exit Quack Quack Smasher mode and become paralyzed for a few seconds.

How to win?

This isn’t the most difficult boss, and it’s possible to defeat it even without Nod-End characters. The key is to remember that the Duckling deals a lot of damage, and to dodge it. During the “Quack-Quack Crusher” mode, the enemy will mostly roll back and forth across the arena. This linear behavior allows you to focus on the Ducklings and finish the fight as quickly as possible.

Troops for the Battle with the Iron Duck

It’s simple: you just need to use characters with the “Charged” or “Moon Charge” reaction. Kirill and Ineffa are obvious choices. If you don’t have these heroes on your account, consider the powerful Electro and Hydro damage dealers: Clorinda and Neuvillette.

  • Kirill + Columbine + Ineffa + Sucrose
  • Neuvillette + Furina + Ineffa + Fischl
  • Raiden + Fischl + Xing Qiu + Ye Lan
  • Clorinda + Furina + Fischl + Xing Qiu

Achievements for defeating the Iron Duckling

There are two achievements you can get for defeating the boss:

  • “Break Through!” – Defeat the boss in co-op mode.
  • “Duck Arsenal Fall” – Break the boss’s barrier by destroying all the Duckbots.

Dark Onslaught version 7.0 looks surprisingly straightforward. Wind Operator and Iron Duckling are old bosses that have appeared in the mode before. Wind Operator can be defeated with anything, but having Kirill on your account is highly recommended for the battle against the Duckling. Fortunately, the banner is just around the corner. Chimera, however, was a pleasant surprise: no complex mechanics or pitfalls; a well-trained damage dealer is enough.
